Concerned! Please Read!

Hey guys! Just wondering if yall have ever noticed this or if something is possibly wrong with my car, when i shift from drive to park my car sort of sounds like it's going to die for a second or so then it goes back to normal, no problems shifting or anything.....just wondering if I should be concerned thanks for reading!

Sounds like a Ford thing to me. When I first leave the house with mine in the mornings , and gas it up it will always have a hesitation until it gets warm ..

I've experienced the same thing. Pretty much happens daily for half a second once shifted from drive to park. Haven't investigated further, though.

My V6 used to do this. I was tuned by MPT. But I never really looked into it...

load is shifting off the motor, which probably releases some load off the torque converter, RPMs drop accordingly, and the engine recovers. I bet if you datalog shifting from Drive to park thats exactly whats happening.

my manual I just realized does something odd. after I've been driving for a while, if I'm sitting in neutral and idling, it idles around 800..if I SLIGHTLY tap the gas and let off, it drops to around 500 and sounds like it wants to stall lol.. but if I tap gas harder it doesn't drop that low after i let off. weird.

maybe it's like a gas saving efficiency thing? somebody said the reason that when you shift and the rpms hang for a bit when you let off gas and clutch is bc of the gas saving tune of the engine or somethin.. maybe this is something like that, who knows.

OT, but on my dad's '69 Camaro, we fix issues like this by adjusting screws on the carburetor...

This is completely normal and is due to the fact that when your car is in gear it has xxx as a load fighting the motor making the motor run slightly harder. When u his neutral or oak it's takes the load off of the motor and when the computer sees this it in return tells the motor to chill out.

Just for example because I don't know exact numbers but let's say at an idle the motor makes 40hp. Put it in drive and it's now making 45 hp to compensate for the load

Like I said those are theoretical numbers just to make a point but that's what's going on here

Hope this helps you guys understand it a bit

Nice car, would love to own one, but the carb would be one of the first things to go; lousy way to mix fuel and air compared to fuel injection.

I vaguely remember this happening to me last year, hasn't since the tune though.

Now I'm just stuck with a rough idle.

Mine started doing it right after I put on my Borla axle backs. I believe the install of the mufflers caused the idle to drop about 100 RPM+/-.
(I already had the BBK shorties on.)

have ya'll tried idle re-learn?

the other thing I remember is Ford tries to keep idle as slow as smoothly possible (gas savings) this makes it apt to stumble a bit.
