Air Filter time!

So, what kind of air filter do you stock, non-CAI guys rock? i'm just over 12k and my air filter isn't as clear as it used to be, so it's time to get a new one. any good choices? i had K&N in my old trucks, so i might look at them, but i wanted to see what you guys think.

and no i'm not buying a CAI so that i can have a cool sound and shiny parts for like $350 :p lol

I heard the Afe drop in filters were ok. K&N would be the other choice.

---------- Post added at 05:22 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:21 PM ----------

Well you dont exactly need a cai. Just get a modular airaid tube and k&n filter for like 150 from AM with the forum code. Way cheaper.

Save the k&n sticker if you get one. Adds 20 lbs of torque.

Everyone has an opinion on this but the general consensus seems to be an air filter won't add hp. So get a k&n (or similar type) if you want to be able to clean/ reuse it. Or buy a paper one if you just want to replace them

I had a K&N before I bought my cool and shiny CAI, lol. I think it worked well, still have it sitting in my stock air box.

I got this one:

Dryflow Air Filters - Oil Free Replacement Air Filters and Cone Filters

Says "developed in cooperation with K&N". Works fine and doesn't need to be oiled. Also about $ 20 cheaper than a K&N.

Air Filter time!

Here's the website in case someone wants to know about the k&n making you lose hp, it's not the only forum that says that. http://www.svtperformance.com/forums...nt-Filter-Test
I was thinking of getting one as a replacement, but I have my doubts now.

"AFE Pro Dry S"

^^^^^^^THIS^^^^^^

I use an AFE and like it very much. Pair it with a airaid modular tube for $100 and its almost as good or the same as an CAI.

The Pro Dry S is a dry filter. Post a link to what you are looking at. I'm also not saying you need to purchase from the link I provided, I was just posting any link I found to the correct filter so you could see what it looks like. I don't remember, I might have even gotten mine from an eBay vendor. Here is what mine looks like before snapping the lid on:

Amazon.com: aFe 30-80179 Direct Fit Inverted Replacement Filter: Automotive

check ti out, that ones blue, but they have a white one which is part number 31 instead of 30:

Amazon.com: aFe 31-80179 Direct Fit Inverted Replacement Filter: Automotive

i think blue is oiled, white isn't.

some poeple are saying blue causes oil to get on MAF sensors and mess them up, so i'm tihnking i'll go for the unoiled white one

You are correct in the color differences. People also say if you don't go crazy with the oil your MAF should be fine. In the end, I decided to go the dry route. Seemed easier to maintain and I really didn't know what benefit oiling it was really going to get me. Especially when people were saying that the K & N oiled filters were hurting performance. I would almost think the dry one would flow better, but I have no data to back that up.

I would keep your existing paper filter to pop in there for a day when you do wash your filter and are waiting for it to dry. I haven't washed mine yet, it's usually very clean when I check it, but I don't really drive in a dirty environment. I just use a paint brush to get the couple bugs out I sometimes find in there. I'm sure if you live in the desert, it would get much dirtier.

Another vote for AFE Pro Dry S. Great quality, no oil, lifetime filter.(washable)
I run with an Airaid MIT.
Very Pleased.

BTW, If Amazons Prime 2 day delivery falls on Sunday and USPS is carrier, they will deliver on Sunday

The USPS cut a deal with Amazon to deliver only their packages on Sundays. They are using part time employees.
It's probably a temporary delivery method until they can get government approval to use drones...

I datalogged with the K&N drop-in and found that the stock filter let more air pass than the K&N. Also did a couple of 1/4 mile passes and the stock yielded better #'s. I posted it somewhere in her.

The K&N also has less surface area than the stock filter.

Interested in the AFE. Anyone data logged the difference if any from the stock filter? Any difference in sound?
