Cheap mods

Hey guys,

I just got my first mustang a month ago, it is a 2014 base 3.7, completely stock, with a gt500 spoiler. I was wondering what are some cheap non-performance mods i can add to the car?

Louvers, stripes, and faux hood pins are cheap. Depending on what you call cheap in the way of price, other non performance mods can include a front grille change, headlight/taillight change, or different set of wheels.

Tinted windows! Really changes the appearance of the ride and keeps the inside cooler during sunny days.

Tinting the orange indicator lights on the side. Also one of my first mods that dresses up the engine is a front strut tower bar.

tint def. got mine to 18% in the rear and it looks much cooler.

some other things are LED's. i got license plate LED's, interior LED's and trunk LED's. looks much better than the yellow incandescent bulbs!

also got the shorty antenna for $15 on amazon..works exactly like stock..but stock is 16 inches and this is only 5. much better!

i'm personally not a fan of louvers...seems like everybody's got em. i had the rear window matte blackout vinyls and LOVED them, but the blindspot kinda sucked..removed them bc i got my rear windows tinted finally, and i'm enjoying having the visibility back but also having it at 18% means it's pretty dark.

tinted vent visors over the doors to help keep rain out also give it a nice slick look.

tail light tint is pretty cheap and makes the rear lights look much better...blacks out the entire back nicely.

here's a random pic i took yesterday showing off my new shortie antenna..but you can also see my vent visors and tint in this.

Does it affect the radio signal at all? I just noticed today my stock antenna has some scratches. Every time I've changed the stock antenna to a shorty though it seems to affect the signal pretty badly.

Back on topic of cheap mods....

To the OP, what is your definition of a cheap mod, money spent wise? What's your price range to spend for a "cheap mod"?

Can't focus to much on the cheap aspect of any mod. If you go to cheap you get junk half the time while the other half you get crap.

What i meant is, basic things (whether interior or exterior) that i can do to the car that will have it stand out from the basic cars at the dealership. Price range would be no more than 200$ maybe 250$ at max.

I usually get on Instagram and check out other people's Mustangs. I'm not saying to steal others ideas or copy other Mustangs but it gives you an idea of what looks good or what looks bad. You can look around and see what you like and then see how much it costs. Everyone has their own idea of what looks good and what looks bad. Make it unique. There are tons of good Instagram pages that post nothing but nice looking Mustangs.

I got the "stubby" antenna. I don't use the AM/FM anyways always Sirius, bluetooth, or Borla!

A wide variety of grilles are around the $200 mark. Plasti Dip the side marker lights will run $10 if you use glossifier.

Interior wise one of the biggest difference makers ive done it wrapping the front dash parts with what ever color or pattern of that 3M 1080 vinyl. Just make sure if you do you properly dis-engage the airbags and get ready for a fight with the passenger side cover.

A can of plastidip can go a long way with your emblems to, and maybe vinyl hood stripes or something.

Just look at every little thing on your car and think how you would want it to look versus how ford would.

Cheap mods that would make a big difference in appearance would be switching out all the factory bulbs ...

I replaced my grill with the billet aluminum one from AM and love it. Makes the car look completely different and sure beats the stock plastic grille. You can get both upper, lower, and emblem for the $200-$250 range. Click image for larger version

Shift knob and boot cover (if manual) louvers, rims , dash kit maybe? Seat covers. My seat covers make my whole interior. Grille overlay, stripes, side scoops, the caliper covers look amazing! Oh and if you get stripes make sure you put them all the way to the bottom of front fascia and to the bottom of your rear bumper. And on the spoiler!!

Agreed I like the way it looks now, but I think I'm going to paint the trim this winter when I'm not driving it as often.

And if you get the store card you get $40 off of that, which is what I did. I love mine too. Between that, the tinted windows, and my sun shield for the windshield, on the hottest of days I can still feel the AC when I get in the car after starting it from 50ft away.

Yes Amazon offers a store card. If you get it you get $40 off your first purchase with it. I paid a total of $75 for my remote start. I have since called and cancelled my card.
