Thanks Kevin, Yea it Is an 8.8. Would I need to buy the kit on AM in order to install them? The gears I'm getting my buddy had them on his coyote for 1000 miles. And he's selling them now

You will want the Ford Racing install kit. Not Motive. Because you will need the bearings, shims, gasket, marking compound, etc.

Personally I wouldn't put used gears into my car, but its your call. Used gears are almost impossible to make silent. They are likely to whine or make noise because they have an established wear pattern from the previous axle setup, and since no 2 axles are exactly alike they will be setup slightly different. If you get them, I would expect to hear some gear noise.

I might as well just get new gears and the gear kit. I don't want no noise or having to spend the money I would just buying them new

I've also seen two sets of used gears where the pinion was severely damaged upon removal (its difficult not to damage them due to the removal process). I would buy new, this is not a job you want to have done multiple times.

I would get new gears as well. Most of the expense is the labor. Most places will also not offer guarantee when installing used parts. Also as stated, get Ford not Motive install kit. You'll love how the gears will wake up your ride!

OP... If you don't mind, please let us know what your 0-60 time is after the install as well as your MPG (and RPM) at 75 mph, if possible.

I'm on the fence as to re-gearing or not and your feedback would be appreciated.

Even better yet... your acceleration should be maxed out. Can't wait to see the results!

My guess from what I have read would be around a 4.3 time, which would be crazy fast for a v6 and well worth a slight drop in fuel efficiency IMO.

4.3 time drop? Or 4.3 0-60 lol? Cause if it drops 4 seconds from 1/4 mile that would be amazing haha

Ha, no I meant a 4.3 0-60. With that gear setup and (assuming) a good custom tune, I think the v6 has the ability to bring that in.

I've only owned mine for 3 months and I love it, but am disappointed that Ford decided to give it a grandpa setup with fuel efficiency as it's priority. I understand it from a marketing standpoint, but our v6 has soooo much restricted potential. The good news is I've never owned a car that was so easy to mod/upgrade... if I only had more scratch.

That's a little much don't you think? Then again my dad had a buddy with a Camaro that had 5.13s in the back. It was a 4 speed. He always said, it wasn't very fast but it sure got there quick.

Pick your poison.

All about suspension and tire choice. If I was 100% motor and no nitrous I would have gone with 4.30's or 4.56's vs 4.10

And for the sake of legitimate discussion here, not being snarky, you really think a 4.56 is a good gear for the coyote motor?

In my mind there comes a point of diminishing returns, especially since the coyote doesn't exactly have an anemic power band to begin with? The v6 lacks some oomph, sure, but its power band is very similar to that of the 5.0, just 100 hp down obviously. I feel there just comes a point where there is too much gear.

Yes I do JPC ran 9's NA with a 4.88 rear gear.
If your car is setup for it then yes.

I did the 3.73's and if you street this thing at all, just go with those, they open it up plenty, and you not screaming down the highway at 70. The 4.10 looks fun and all but i know if i would have put anything shorter in mine it would have been a mistake, i still manage 24 mpg on the highway.

First gear with a 3:73 is already short enough, anymore and first will be useless and your going to spend the entire time shifting if your racing someone.

So if I go with 4.10's Ima waste more time shifting that actually racing? That's what I want gears for to be honest. To race.
