So you bought a Mustang but could only afford 1/4 of a boat?

Good luck on your searching. But I don't think Mustangs were meant for kayaks. LOL.

Yakima® - Ford Mustang 2005-2013 HullRaiser Kayak Rack

That says it fits 05-13 models.

And that's JUST for the kayak mounts. The rails are $300+

Yeah, I don't know how comfortable I would feel paddling around Long Island in an inflatable kayak either.
Probably, your best bet for a rack will be from either Yakima or Thule.

I've never tried the inflatable kayak but imagine they are slow.

How about just doing something simple/cheap till you decide you are going to do it often.

Get some good size foam blocks that go on the roof (they sell them for this) put the kayak on them then just wrap straps around the boat pass them through the interior and tie it all down. They also sell cross members with suction cups/foam pads that strap to the roof. The hassle is you'll have difficulty finding ones that work with the window tracks on your car.

disadvantage is you'll loose headroom and water may drip but a real rack will be at least $400 this way you can see how often you go kayaking and if you go often enough to want something nice.

I know this isn't Mustang specific but the $$ aspect may be similar. Neighbor just told me she was quoted $1000 for a kayak rack on top of her 2013 Toyota Venza. They don't have rails already, same as Mustang.
My daughter got beautiful sturdy ones last week on top of her Escape...but of course that has rails and a rack of sorts to begin with.
