Now that I think about it I heard something that sounded like a rock stuck in my tire hitting he ground, so it did kinda tick.

How much is the breather valve repair without a warranty?

Do you hear it at all speeds of only over a certain speed range.

Around 40-50.

Some is just road noise from tires but I think something in the differential is making noise. Thats what the dealer said when I just got wheel bearings replaced.

May just be the shimming, its only when you let off the gas.

And I guess the leaking is the breather value

I also have the same sound around 50 when letting off the gas. It is shimming. I have just learned to tune it out. Its not THAT bad.

Yeah I honestly think I was just got used to it.
It really isnt that noticable. Not loud like I said. Have to have the music off to hear it.

The people at the dealership just got me all paranoid

That breather valve fix is pretty easily done. My service manager let me have the part to install myself since they "can't get my car on the lift" now that it's lowered.

All leaks gone

Im think I should just go ahead and get a reservoir tank since i'm not under warranty.

They cant get it on any lifts??
I was told no for the alignment rack but they just had it on a different kind today

They are mega lazy. Plus it's a small dealership. They maybe have 40 cars on the lot, body shop closed. But the service manager hooks me up now. Only took me 6 months to break him down. Lol.

If your not under warranty then yeah I think you are right about the expansion tank.

That makes sense. Plus it seems like most dealerships dont want to deal with you and all the aftermarket goodies.

I just let mine leak out of the breather valve... eventually it'll stop after the excess oil has vented.

I will say, after about 3000-4000 miles, i dont hear the sound a lot anymore. I guess the gears have finally just about worn in to each other. So maybe give it a bit of time.

You sure???

I'll be devestated if it fkkks up my gears

If its something that can wait a few weeks, that would be awesome because I was just about to go look at a purty foxbody before I had the wheel bearing repair.

I'll need that extra $$$ for taxes on it (If i buy lol)

No man, it's actually pressurized. When you touch the top of the vent or when you get it loose you can hear the pressure get released. That with the way the fluid circulated through the differential and it's not going to just stop because "excess" finally leaked out. The package I got was meant for a ford service tech, and it tells them to check the fluid and "replace lost fluid levels to acceptable level". Just saying. Your plan has flaws

First I've heard of the rattle cap vent having a check valve. Still, each time it lets some oil vapor out, the fluid level inside the pumpkin drops. Eventually it will drop enough that there isn't enough pressure built up inside to open the checkvalve and so oil venting should subside. There's a Ford TSB out there about a fluid overfill condition from the factory, which advises the techs to reduce the fluid level slightly to correct excessive venting.

I've had the rattle cap get stuck before, and the rear axle decided to vent its fluid through my pinion seal. Having the dealer fix that under warranty touched off a whole series of events that eventually led to improperly installed gears and blown carrier and pinion bearings in short order. Had to have a pro mechanic rebuild the rear axle to correct the dealer's screw-ups.

Is it okay to drive for a week? Until I can order and get that expansion tank installed?

Should be fine. Whirring like I said is usually shimming being slightly off (assuming we are on the same page with this). The fluid leaking should be minimal and not enough to get you to a low level. Sounds like it is just venting excess.

I am sorry but I have to since no one else has yet...

If you have rear end noise, you might want to go to the doctor and get that checked. Before you need new seats in your car. XD

Is that to say that silent "exhausts" are OK for the seats?

Yes, unless other stuff escapes with the air.

Exactly Best to bulk it up with some cheese and stuff.

^ It should be in the manual, but Ford currently recommends 75w140 full syn for rear end fluid. Don't forget the friction modifier!
