Good trade off...I think

I love meeting new car people.....

So I stopped by a local car club met near my work a few weeks ago and chatted with a guy for awhile about his mach1 he had as well as his new 2014 vert that he uses for his daily driver. Long story short he loved the way my Raxiom nav unit looked and wants me to install the same unit in his car in the next few weeks. He wants to pay me for it but told him I just like helping other people out on this kind of stuff and it would be fun. He still insists on paying me something, so I just told him whatever you think is right is fine.

He then tells me right now his car is in the shop and his buddy is installing his 3.55 gears right now. So I said well.....I'm looking to get some 3.73's very soon but the only place close by (Naples, FL) that I know of wanted to charge $800-$1000 just for labor. 😳

So he says let me talk to my buddy and see what he can do for you.....he calls me back about 1hr later and says he said he would install for $300 as long as I supply all the parts needed. πŸ˜†

So now instead of looking at $1600-$1800 total out the door. I'm now looking at only about $900-$1100 or so. Needless to say I got my wife's ok on this as prob my early Christmas present. Now I just have to get everything I need and get everything lined up correctly! I'm super pumped about this. I have read countless gears and tuner threads and pretty much know what I think I want/need to do.

First I'm looking at this combo from AM...
Mustang 3.73 Gears and BAMA X4 Tuner (10-14 GT, BOSS; 11-14 V6) - Free Shipping

I have a 2013 auto and it's my daily driver so I'm thinking 3.73 is best but might go 3.55. Also thinking that bama tunes would be good for me. Thinking of 93 race, 93 performance, and 89. This gears and tune thing is still all new to me so feel free to chime in with any advice. Below in my signature is all my current mods(most are appearance). Thanks everyone. Here is my most recent pic for the hell of it! Lol

I have 3.73s in my Auto. Be prepared to rarely see above 20-21 MPG. You'll definitely have a lot more fun, though! Totally worth it.

That does sound like a good trade off!

Does he have factory satellite radio? You'll want one of the adapters I have to tap into that, instead of having to run the GPS antenna on the dash. You'll look like a genius to him!

I put 3:55s as mine is also a DD. My daily commute is about 50 miles with more hwy than city. Wanted to salvage as much mpg as possible. You'll love the increased performance with the gears.

I get right about 22 mpg right now, so I'm expected about a 2 mpg drop, that would put me right at your mark or 20 mpg. That seems about right to me.

He has the premium, so I would assume so. I have yet to see this car of his. Only saw his old Mach 1 he had.

That is on my list but down the list a bit. I don't plan on going over 100 anytime soon. At least that's when I hear you really need to upgrade the DS. You think I need it sooner though?

Very nice. 3.73 is the way to go. Unless MPGs REALLY concern you then maybe 3.55s. But you will regret it. This is the type of job you get done once. As it is not cheap and takes a whole day away of you being with your car.

Exactly Kevin! One time only. MPG isn't that big of a concern. If I lose a few MPG, no big deal. Going to be tough to be away from my car a day. Just going to have to steal my wife's explorer for the day. πŸ˜†

Nah. 3.73s to me is the border line for daily driving gears. 4.10 or more would be for a more dedicated drag car.

Lmao! Nah. My old 2011 had 2.73s. 6th gear was almost useless. Mpgs were great. But getting anywhere quick from a dead stop was non-existent.
