Trust the gauge or the light

Hey, I'm currently having an issue with my gas gauge. I was running low on gas yesterday so I put $20 worth the gas in which put my up to a little over a quarter tank on the gauge.

Problem is the light that indicates I'm low on gas won't turn off and it says I'm 30 miles to E, but after doing some math I should have much more than that, along with the gauge indicating I have more gas than that. Anyone else ever have this problem?

There may be a recall on the gas gauges. Check with your dealership

Sounds like you can't trust either one.
Play it safe (until you get it fixed) and start from a full tank and go like 200 miles and fill again. Unless of course you think you average less than about 16 MPG.

Disconnect the battery for 5-10 minutes. See if that resets the ecm's fuel eco calculations.

Did you keep your car running when you filled up?

the miles to empty calculates using available gallons x how many MPG you averaged over the last 500 miles. Also remember with the split tank design it leaves 1-2 gallons per side. The light does come on early and I find the tank small but I'm not convinced you have a problem other than needing gas.

People like this are the reason we'll never have hydrogen powered cars.

Aw, ye of little faith! Sure we will! Consequently people who leave their cars running while fueling will suddenly be no more a problem.

Lol, very true. Except I don't want to be the guy next to the idiot filling up with the car running.

Or the idiot filling up gas cans in the bed of their pickup...I've actually SEEN that before... Again, there is a potential for that problem to eliminate itself haha.
