Bearing Replacement

So I have to replace my bearings in the rear end.

Going to order this...
Ford Racing Mustang Ring & Pinion Installation Kit - 8.8in M-4210-B2 (86-14 V8, 99-04 Cobra, 11-14 V6) - Free Shipping

along with the axel bearings.

My question is, on the page I posted, it asks you to add a 2010+ rear gear pinion bearing.
But the kit says it comes with a 2012 GT500 rear pinion bearing, so do I need to add the other one??

I want to say yes. I believe the gears for the GT and V6 grade are different. This is why I would assume each shop that sells them have them in different catagories. Unless someone can confirm the part numbers are the same.

Wait - I just saw what I think you meant. On http://www.americanmuscle.com/frpp-8...14v8-NoFitment

It asks if you want to add that additional $60 bearing. I believe it is the same thing. If not, just opt out and get that other one.

Yeah I'm pretty sure its the same friggin thing. If you look through all the pics on the first link you can see the same looking bearing thats in the second link

And if i'm replacing all the bearings, will it hurt me to drive another 2 days? like less than 100 miles

Maybe you can call/chat with AM to see if they are the same bearing?

Well, why are you replacing this again? What gears do you have now? Auto or manual? Sorry, mobile app is s***.

Auto 3.55's

I have bad rear end noise. Took it to someone and he says its forsure the bearings and maybe gears, wont really know until you open up the diff. But he also said there doesnt seem to be any gear backlash

^ There's got to be some gear backlash...if there is too little, your prior installer might have put them in too tight and this might be the cause of your troubles.

Is your diff leaking/low on fluid? If not, I'd say just drive on it another couple of days. Not much additional harm will be done, and you'll be replacing all the stuff that might get harmed anyways.

Possibly shimming is off also. Shimming is one of the more easier ones to not be dialed in/correct. But still requires taking everything apart to redo it. And its usually best to.

When they redid my gears, i had them swap all new gears in as well. As a bad wear pattern might have burned in.

I'm just not going to drive it until Friday.
I dont want to make it worse...

But yeah I'm going to replace all bearings and got the gears just in case there bad too.

I wish someone could tell me if I need that extra bearing that it tries to get you to add. Guess I have to call AM

One would assume if it is suggesting it, then it doesn't come with the kit. You COULD drive it for a bit. Improper shimming - assuming its not crazy off, should still make the car driveable but it will make noise. And since they will be taking it entirely apart and redoing it, you SHOULD be fine.

However! I am not a mechanic and will not be held liable if something did break. Note that I drove mine for a week when it was making all of the horrible whining upon accelerating and slowing down.

The mechanic immediately could tell that it was bearings when I took him for a ride. And the gears he said you wont really know forsure until you look at them.

How did you fix your gear whine?

For me it was improper shimming. It is still a hair off. But nothing overwhelming. And in the 3 months or so I have had them in the car, It has not got any more noisy then it was.

might as well get a new seal done while you're at it. mine just developed that, so I'm getting it done next week.

Idk. It's whatever comes in the ford racing kit on AmericanMuscle.

Not getting the dealership to do it, not under warranty, and if I was it would be voided lol
