FINALLY got my new hood

After months and months of looking for an ingot silver 13-14 GT hood that wasn't ridiculously priced I finally found one.

Scored this for $375 on Craigslist with the vents painted black. I friggen love it. I had to haggle the hell out of the guy to get to $375. He was originally asking for $500.

Nope, this one looks to be in great shape.

Now my original hood, that was a disaster. Here's my original hood.

I was thinking of putting it on Craigslist for $75 to see if anyone wants it. I think aluminum scrap price around here are about $0.45/lb. So I might just scrap it.

Looks good!

Buddy of mine had a spare hood from his LS1 Camaro. He had a sign shop work up some decals (a giant 3 and some Goodwrench decals) and did it up like a NASCAR hood and hung it in his garage. Just a thought.

Actually that's kind of a cool idea.

We'll see if I can get some cash for it, if not I'll make it a wall piece.

Side note: I was really surprised at how light the thing is.

Now you need a much more aggressive grille to compliment the hood.

Yeah, I've been looking but nothing really catches my eye.

I like the CDC grille but not enough to buy it.

Congrats on the new hood. Looks great! I did the same thing, picked up a GT hood off Craigslist and sold my V6 hood. The underneath may had been opened up a bit more. Basically the previous owner completely opened it up under the vents to let more heat out. Which in the middle of the desert is very important.

Oh nice.

Yeah, I'd probably do that too if I lived in the desert. But up here in the northeast we get so much rain and snow and crap that it's probably not a great idea.

I believe Kevin did this to his but wound up needing to get a new under hood pad because of the rain.

Nah i didnt get a new heat blanket. Instead, went to a closed box intake setup. I have a jlt insert for the intake side vent if you want it.

I was only a little concerned about that, but, I have the stock intake. I checked the engine compartment after washing the car at home and noticed only a couple of drops on the filter housing. And I did not attempt to avoid the vents when rinsing the hood. I doubt it would be an issue even with a CAI.

During a 5-10 min wash - no. During a 3-4 hour extremely hard rain - yes.

A risk I no longer have to worry about.

I doubt I'll cut out the vent holes the whole way.

If anything, I'll just take the heat blanket off before I go to the track and reinstall it when I get back home.

Maybe. Don't recall last time i saw it rain that much. We only get 3-4 minute hard rain a couple times a year. I've heard CAI systems are not recommended for desert climates anyway due to all the fine sand particles.

Had about a month of non stop rain near central Texas at the beginning of the summer. That was when it became a problem. Just depends on your area.
