I believe the stock 17" rims are a 7" width. So the question isn't how wide can you go without modifying the fenders, but rather how wide you can go on a 7" wide wheel. 215s are ideal on a 7" width. You can run a 225, but any higher than that and you're going to be fighting for traction. If you want to go wider, you're going to need a wider wheel.

I am running 275/40 19's on a 9 inch wheel, you might be able to fit a 235/55 on your 17 inch wheels but that would be the max I would go

A 235 is possible, but with the OP being twin turbo, he's going to run into traction issues stretching the tire that far.

Main question is why are you still on stock wheels and tires if you spent the $ to go twins?

Traction would still be a problem with my 275's and twins

Also it's not only size but the type of tire you choose... I could have a 325 street tire that performs like a$$ or a 275 tire that sticks like white on rice

How well of a street tire are they though? I'm sure he will want something that lasts more than 2k miles.
