Need help fast!

Hello everyone. So here's my problem. My car is making a loud squealing/whistling sound starting in 2nd gear and thru out the rest(4,5,& sometimes 6). When I push in the clutch it dies down some but, you can still hear it. I think it is either the alternator or maybe something to do with the air conditioning. I'm not sure, I'm not a mechanic. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem before? I really want my car to run right. I miss driving it on the nice weekends but, I won't drive it until it gets fixed. I would really appreciate any input from anyone. Thanks.

More info would help. Where is the sound coming from? Front of engine (might be a belt) or transmission (might be flywheel or pressure plate).

If it happens in some gears but not others, I don't think it would be the alternator or a/c. Something like the alternator is driven by your accessory belt which turns based off engine rpm.

If pushing in the clutch pedal changes the sound, I would suspect something wrong in the clutch area, but start off by removing the drive belt and see if the noise goes away. If it does , you have a bad pulley on the front of the engine somewhere or a noisy drive belt. Keep in mind if it is belt noise the most common cause is a leaking water pump getting coolant on the belt.

It is the tensioner and belt. Taking my car this week to get it fixed. Thanks for the replies. I hope that nothing else messes up, the warranty is over in may 2016. Hood scoop and tail wing are next on the list. See ya.
