Plastidipped my faux gas cap..

and i love it! makes the back of the car look much more stealthy. kept the chrome pony and red/white/blue though. thinking maybe next i might do some black hash marks on the front fender...matte black on black paint would look cool! subtle and stealthy. next project is probably a new grille though.....operation: chromedelete is in full effect lol

step 1: setting it up and taping it off

then here's coat 1, semi transluscent:

coat 2:

coat 3:

coat 4:

final coat 5:

finished product!

there's a tiny bit that's rough on the inside at the bottom where i suppose it pooled up a bit, oh well. i even tried pushing it in with a razor but it didn't help much. can't really notice it..i mean, i'll notice it, but whatever. i like it a lot!

Just go for the rtr panel. I'm probably one of the few that like the faux gas cap. I was thinking of painting the letters on it red.

I like your idea of painting the letters. It's the only place on the exterior that says "Ford". I was thinking of painting the letters in Ford blue.

Jayochs: Looks great, I like that you left the Pony alone and only did the ring. Very nice touch

Well done.

Next you've gotta dip that nasty grille chrome surround. Makes the grille look 10x better. It will hold you over until you can get a new grille.

Here's mine with the stock grille plasti dipped.

oh vig.. you already know the story of how I tried and failed at that hahaha. in order to do that, I've gotta take the grille off to get it looking good.. and for that matter, I think I might just buy the boss 302 grille!

sweet. so I see you didn't worry too much about getting tape right up to the chrome ring (in inner part) did you just cut it out afterwards?

yeah, i took a sharp razor blade and just while it was on the 5th coat and drying, i tried to separate it best I could.. you can see how it pooled on the bottom though and I have that bit of lift inside the actual cap, but oh well. other than that, everything peeled off perfectly.
