2014 horrible gas mileage

Hi all! Just picked up a 2014 v6 with the performance pack installed. I'm only getting 25 mpg and have even tried keeping off the pedal by cruising at 55-60 mph with and without cruise control on. Seems like always getting this mpg if at 55 or going 70mph. Does anyone know for sure if the 3.31 rear and 19 inch wheels will sacrifice the mpg? Everything I searched doesn't say if so. Also, can I put on a smaller wheel for winter set for winter use tires and how does that affect speedo?
Thanks!

I have the same package and I get roughly the same and my driving is a nice mix of city and interstate. I average (driving considerately) 24 or so but if I do all highway I get about 26-28. In just city about 18.5. Not for sure myself as I can't find anything on it.

How many miles to empty do you get in a full up?

We have a 2014 v6 PP. Consistently get 30 on trips @ 70mph with cruise. Live in the mountains of nor-cal, and get 24-25 in the hills. 18X9 Bullits, Nitto 255's with 2:73s

Yes they will.

2012 V6 PP. I get 21-23 mix..best ever all hwy was 26-27. It is overall OD that affects speedo I have two sets with a difference of 3/4-1" and that changes it by 2-3% not enough for me to worry about. w/o insulting air pressure?

A smaller diameter TIRE would have the effect of increasing the final drive ratio slightly and result in a minor (possibly unnoticeable) reduction in MPG.
I emphasize TIRE as the wheel/rim size, in itself, does not affect it.
Your tire is 27" dia while the stock tire is either 27.6" or 28" both slightly taller.
So yes both the 3.31 gears as well as your 255x40R19 tires have a higher final ratio than the stock 2.73 gears and slightly larger dia tires. That's what makes it quicker than stock.
Also, keep in mind that not all 3.7L engines are going to get identical mpg.
EDIT: Theoretically, you should be getting better MPG at 55 mph then at 70 mph. Also, the onboard MPG calculation seems to run on the low side, I believe. You may find you do better if you do your own calculations.

Ford's advertisement of MPG was based on the 2:73 gearing; 3:31's are going to lower this a bit, along with a taller tire/rim combination (larger mass to turn). May not seem like much on paper, but you are only seeing a drop of about 4 MPG. I suspect it's more due to the 3:31 gearing.

Also, I would not consider 25 MPG "horrible" gas mileage. After all, it is a Mustang, and you're supposed to have some "spirited" fun with it.

are you doing math or relying on car #'s? esp if you are not resetting the car's mpg readout. I'll agree with Hard you should see a real difference at slower speeds.

Gas Mileage

I am getting about 24 MPG on the highway in the winter, and about 18 MPG in the city with the Perf Pkg 6 Spd manual.

Just for a comparison, mine is a V6, Auto, 2.73 gears with an MPT 91 performance tune. I just did a 750 mile highway run averaging 75 mph and got 30.3 mpg. I'm currently getting 18.5 to 19.5 around town. I typically don't get too worried about my mileage cause it's a Mustang not a Honda or Toyota. I just keep an eye on the mileage as an early indicator of any issues.

Thanks all! That's kinda what I suspected. No, I don't use the on board readout for the calculations, I do the old school math of miles driven between fill ups.

If you have the PP you have 3.31 gears not 2.73.

PP could mean Pony Package as well, that's what I have.

I would be happy if I was getting 25mpg I get 14 mpg on the streets and 19mpg on highway and I think it just dropped even more since I installed my new gt500 17x9 255/50/17 wheel and tires and I only have a CAI, Flowmaster axelbacks and 87 bama tune

Certainly not for a car with over 300hp.

I bought my '14 V6 with the Performance Package new in 2014. City mileage is a bit over 18, combined about 25, and pure highway close to 28. However, the milage includes a carrying a full-size spare and wheel in the trunk, and luggage when I'm on a long distance run.

I'd check directly with Ford before switching tire sizes.

Enjoy your roadster - as someone posted above, it's a Mustang, not a Fiesta!

You are turning 500 RPM over factory on the highway at 70mph, your gas mileage will drop accordingly.

What I meant by "horrible" was getting 25mpg over the advertised 31 mpg. Everything is stock and will probably stay that way and I absolutely love the car. It is quick...very quick and the small sacrifice in mileage is worth it! This is my fifth stang ('69, '76, '77, '79, '94gt) and is the best with the '69 about equal.

Yes! Premium Package. We have winter blend gas in Calif., so our mileage goes down in winter. I typically see a drop by 1or2 mpg.

Are you always getting on it with mostly city driving? When I run my 91 octane race tune and drive in my usual "spirited style", I get around 15 mpg in the city.

I also saw a 2 mpg drop on mine, always using premium, with this year's winter fuel mix. Hi way mileage went down to 24 from 26 mpg.

The biggest factor is likely to be tire pressures. Keep it close to the maximum and your MPG will imporve a lot. Traction will suffer a tiny bit, though.

I believe tire pressure is one of the most neglected things out there. I used to be the manager at our local H-D and just about every bike that came in had incorrect tire pressure. Usually too low. I run 35psi all around. Seems to be working well where we drive and live.

I live right outside Philly and commute in each day. I average about 14-15MPG all city driving. I only use 86 and tires are checked once a week and topped off.

That's what the Schuylkill will do to mileage... I ****ing hate the highways around Philly, its worse than NYC sometimes.
