Hit a dead skunk or ground hog along the road?

It is too early in the year for it to have been a ground hog.

Was the smell sort of like a hot, petroleum-based smell?
Like the fragrance of simmering oil, and un-burnt fuel?
The smell of a car that has just had the piss driven out of it?

Define the smell. Cars make a lot of smells. Could be hot brakes coolant leak. Clutch etc etc.

Probably the cats. Not unusual when overheated or pushed to their limits.

I'm betting its this. When I get on it with WOT for a while, I sometimes smell all the crud burning off the cats. I love the smell of burning cats* in the morning...smells like...victory!

Who knows, maybe the neighbors cats got under the car before they went racing.

My vote goes to the cats. Bad gas, extended idling/cruising is hard on them. They need heat. With the heat comes odors and even smoke.

I once had smoke coming from under my hood. I found a dead rat with a driveshaft sized semi-circle in it.

I saw the title of this thread and immediately started thinking of that Seinfeld episode where the smell gets in the car and they can't get it out and then it gets in Elaine's hair etc... classic.

My vote is the cats if its an auto.

If you're pushing it with a stock intake that might be the reason, how many miles does your stang have ?
