Opinions & experiences with Procharged/Turbo

I know the difference between the two. But I'd like to get the input of people who actually run the set up, such as the performance, numbers, experiences, etc.

Take a look through the boss 227 build thread. The gentleman who is behind that has been down a few roads with that car.

Proving to my fellow racers that the disdain that some GT drivers have for V6 drivers is unfounded, one results archive at a time since 2013.

Yeah, easy.

You'll be faster with the turbo, but there's more tuning and headache involved with getting everything right.

Procharger will be a lot more simple to just install and go, but you wont be as fast. That's the bottom line. ^^ The above mentioned thread is still a great reference though, and you should still poke through it.

thank ya

My recommendation....
A procharger isn't a bad choice, but I would lean towards a properly setup turbo kit. I'd highly recommend JMP (or bomber?MPT if they ever finish development). JMP makes single and twin turbo kits. I do not, however, recommend the LPF kit. There are some detrimental defects in their design.

Once I've got this motor back together (I'm going to leave it with the builder when I'm doing my internship in may), I will get the remainder of the the JMP twin turbo kit. The setup i've got is slightly different from the setup he offers, since it was his old personal setup.

Once he put these headers up for sale, I bought them, and put my JMP single setup up for sale (which has been sold to a guy in AZ).

Is it that you can get more power per psi in a turbo vs a supercharger? Also thanks for all your replies.

That and just the less parasitic drag and higher torque potential. Blowers can make plenty of power, which is why i tried to avoid wording it that way, but typically a turbo will be "faster."

I have the jmp twin turbo kit and love it lol it's so much fun! Also jack from jmp is very helpful with any question I may have.

The car is making around 520+ on 10 psi

No experience with procharger but from what I've seen, they won't make as much torque, like the others said. But I've seen some use a waste Gate mod or something like that to build boost faster.

I almost sent you a PM as to not thread jack, but i figure it pertains to this discussion a bit any ways. Do you happen to have a boost air temp, or IAT 2 temp that you could give us for that kit? Basically how hot the air is - post intercooler - going into the motor? Thanks.

I honestly haven't checked it in a bit.
Unfortunately one of the turbos actually failed on me, so it's at jmp right now. We sent the turbo back to precision to get warranty work on it. It was leaking oil or something like that inside and constantly smoking. Whenever it gets back, I can check the iat temp.

So he won't be offering precision journal bearing turbos with the kit any more

Stock internals? E85/93 octane?

I want nothing that crazy, but just seeing that gives me a little wood.

Eric, do you plan on getting forged internals, or are you keeping your motor on stock for now?

It's gonna be stock for now. Mostly focusing on suspension now but if I get a good deal on a second engine, I will begin building it

I honestly don't know of many people forging the internals of the 3.7L as its so robust as it is.

I plan to work on suspension and switch gears before any major power adders. Just me, but I think if I go boost then I will forge just to be safe.

I just wish some rich kids would do multiple tests on these 3.7l engines so we could all see what forged internals we need and don't need to get reliable big power.

These comments about forged internals, and having alrefire on this thread equates to lol

Most people stick in the 400-500 range. Connor took his that high knowing it might blow up. It didn't, but thats just one example. It could have just been a factory freak engine. We've seen those with all other engines.

I read through the thread he started, forget which forum, when he first began the turbo project. Also read through the boss 227 build thread today. It's a lot of info, and I'm using it as a baseline. Forced inductions just been on my mind lately, even if I got a while to go.

Let me break it down for you.
Your pistons (especially the rings) are your weak links.
On my motor, I cracked the skirts and lost compression (and i had a ton of detonation) on 2 other cars, the rings broke (on one of them, a hole melted in 2 of the pistons). Your pistons are what will give out around 500-550tq, sometimes lower.
