LED Underglow

So j just recently found out that in Texas, it is not illegal to have Underglow lighting. The only restrictions are as follows: the physical bulb cannot be seen (so if rope lighting the rope cannot be seen), also it cannot be flashing of any color (fading between colors is considered flashing).

With that being said, does anybody have any experience in adding lights to the underside of a mustang? Trying to run it along side say the headlight switch wires or something like that. I plan to have a separate switch. Also any suggestions on manufacturer or type of light?

You really are considering doing this? I think you are only about 10 years too late.............but after all is said and done (and typically, lots more is said than done!)..........it's your car.

Yea, not something I would do unless a show car, and even then I probably wouldn't. But to each his own.

It's not really a mustang thing. It's more an import thing. So I would hope you didn't.

We aren't trying to be harsh. Sorry if it comes across that way. Mustangs are meant to be (as any car) an extension of our personality. It's just not what "muscle car" guys do. If that's what you want, go ahead. But most Mustang people will advise against it.

Back when i was in high school and had blue underglow on my 01 v6 mustang (yeah ... yeah...) i was "harassed" a few times by cops at either meets or driving and they said basically cars with certain modifications such as these are "insinuating a race." Never got any tickets or warnings, but it may just draw some unwanted attention.

Back when I got my first car, I had blue license plate lights on it and I still got pulled over and given a fix-it ticket. OP, since you're in Texas too, and if you're really going to do this, you might want to be sure about not just if underbody lighting is legal but which colors are legal too.

This, you just reminded me that i heard something about red and blue being illegal because those are emergency vehicle colors.

Instead of glow lights, how about a tuner? That's one nice looking car. When I was 18 I had 56 ford pickup custom cab. Had that truck fixed pretty nice. Bought a 56 Vicky after that. Awesome car. Then I bought a 65 2+2, 289HiPo. To have a mustang like that, what a dream.

So if you want to do it the best thing is some lights that are sold on ebay they are rgb leds and have about 50 diffrent color options and you can leave it one color or change it using a remote to fade from one color to another or to quickly jump between colors you can also make them flash extremely quickly or very slowly as well as adjust the brightness and best of all its all controlled by a remote so you can turn it off or on as you wish. I bought the lights to install them on my car but then decided not to do it maybe in the future. I'll admit it looks nice if you have the right upgrades such as the premium interior lighting that changes colors like I do. If you really want to do it this is your best option I wired some into my hood scoop and all you gotta do is connect it to the battery preferably with a fuse. The lights are 1 meter long I believe and are kinda like a flat rope and they have a 3m backing that adheres to the car though I would find strategic points to zip tie it as I don't trust the 3m one of the reasons I decided not to install mine. But if you really want to do it buy them for 10 dollars and it'll look really nice if you can get them in a good spot under the car.

Hey as long as you're happy with it at the end of the day than do whatever you want to your car. Taste and styling preferences will always be subjective; at least LEDs will make your car unique, and isn't that what customizing your car's all about?

Waaay many years ago when I was 18 (before LEDs were invented) I had some amber truck clearance lights behind the grille on my 1941 Packard. (my first car). Thought it was cool at the time. Now I guess it looked like a big jack-o-lantern.

It's your car go for it.

That's funny!! On the 65 2+2 I put some amber marker lights in the grill also. That was in 69.

If you do it, don't be surprised if your self from 10-15 years in the future time travels back and punches you right in the throat.

Yep, everyone will have either a Civic DX with a fart can, cut springs and neon lights or a Grand Prix (they will pronounce it "Grand Pricks") with welded in mufflers, a system and GTP badges but it will be a SE.

I did it on mine. Get compliments all the time. I wired the LEDs to the courtesy lights. That way they only come on when I either hit the unlock on the remote or open the door. They turn off when you start the car, or hit lock on the remote.

To each his own...

Compliments from who? Because I know the crowd around here who would like them and the crowd who would point and laugh. I'd be in the latter.

Do you have a working sarcasm detector?

But yes to each their own, as long as its not breaking any lighting laws for your state.

I'm sure there are people in the world that would point and laugh at your car too.

What part of NJ? I used to live off of exit 109.
