Weird TPMS thing

Okay, so I just had my new wheels mounted with new TPMS sensors, and it just occurred to me that no warning lights have went off yet. I have drove probably 30 miles so far...

Does anyone know if it takes 50 miles or something? I figured I would get a warning immediately. I bought the damn sensor set up thingy, so do I bother to do anything if no lights ever go on?

If it's not warning you of low tire pressure, I probably wouldn't bother. But just to be sure, let some air out of one tire just to make sure. I've had my sensors out of my wheels for a whole year, and after just having them put back in, they worked right away.

I had a case where I put on take-off Mustang wheels/tires and the warning light came on but went away after a day or so. No reset tool.
Personally, if you're not getting any warning lights, I'd leave it alone. I suppose, if you wanted to check to see if they were, in fact working, you could let air out of one of the tires.

Did you install the wheels your self or have a shop put them on? If a shop put them on for you, they probably have a tool and programmed the TPMS for you.

I could go between my winter and summer wheels and never get a light.

I put some new wheels, tires and tpms on from AM about 4K miles ago and no light ever came on. Installed them myself. I even took them off for a trip to California. About 1200 miles and no lights ever came on.

Yeah I put the wheels on myself. Im wondering if the 2014 has some sort of auto read for the sensors?

I watched a video on how to use the tool, but I think it was a 2012 they did it on. Hell idk, I almost want to use it to make sure everything is working proper. Its the OCD in me. Lol

Don't the 2014's tell you which tire is low? My 2012 does not. I don't see how the car could know which tire sensor was which without programming it manually when new ones were installed. Here is the link to a guide for the relearning procedure. It's on american Muscle. http://1.cdn.lib.americanmuscle.com/...structions.pdf

You shouldn't worry if it's working properly just because a dummy light never came on, what you should be doing is checking your tire pressure on a weekly basis. That's not an insult to you by the way. That's just going to give you the most bang for the buck you just spent on those new tires.

Ive watched the process video, which is why I bought the tool and was ready to hit my brakes and turn my car off and on a hundred times. lol

And I do check my tire pressure weekly, I added that to my OCD list a long time ago. But weekly checks dont help you know you're losing air while driving know what I mean?

Im guessing the warnings will pop up today and I'll get the pleasure of going through the rediculous relearning process. Lol

side note: If I store my set with the TPMS (I have one with & one without) in the garage it takes 15 miles or so for my warning to come one when I'm wearing the winter shoes.

Same with my sensors. Only time they went off was after a trip to the 2014 American Muscle Car Show. Turns out after I got back I was losing some air. I had run over a piece of metal used to fasten the metal plates down, so they then can pour the asphalt down. I new it was in the tire but it was about 8 inches long and there was no way to get it out of the tire with a pair of pliers. Local Tire barn pulled it out for free. Not a problem since.

I only had to use my tool to set it with the Summer tires. The Winter ones were put on and I have never had to use my tool to reset them.

You don't need a tool because they're self learning.

Not that I'm doubting you, but how do you know this for certain?

I went to Omaha and back this weekend and still no lights. If they are self learning Im going to be a little irritated that I bought that damn learning tool.

I guess I'll have to let some air out of my tire and see if it works.

I've seen more folks NOT have to use the tool ie what Grabber said about self learning is what I would say too.

when you put it in the classifieds (assume you can't return it) make sure to post a pic that shows item along with the piece of paper showing screen name & date

Sell it. The tool is a big ripoff that was never needed.

I was questioning how he knew he was pretty smart. So his answer was a good one.
