I'll mention electrical items normally act up when hot

hydraulics will act a bit funky when cool.

Koryak,
Here's a new one - with the stock tune in place it actually bogged down when it was cold this morning. An actual bog like a carbureted motor when it's choking on gas. No codes or anything. Gonna keep looking on this

Here's some general troubleshooting info: If the throttle hesitation feels sharp then ignition failure or fuel leanness is likely. Bogging or sluggishness is more like too rich fuel or possibly VVT.

I think VVT is used for EGR on this engine so cam position is important. See if there are any pending diagnostic codes for cam position error if your scanner allows this.

Hi volt wing, did a quick catalog a few days ago, I'm going to try to download it tonight. Spoke to the folks at Bama, they said they'd look at it and even offered to write a special tune that might compensate for VVT issues, which was very nice. I'm not going to do that however, if I can establish that's the issue I'll have to figure out how to repair it correctly.
Hopefully I'll get that info to you soon

I finally got the data log to bama, they want me to do a complete catalog and send it to them. Something is going on with the fuel, the car keeps adding fuel and taking it away at inappropriate times. Weird. At least it still runs

Just a quick update - finally did a complete data log. The car is running a bit rich so they sent me a new tune that was a little leaner. Runs better now, less surging. There's still something weird going on, I'm gonna datalog it when it's cold and surging and see if they can find it

Its my understanding that running rich can do some serious damage... I hope the "weird" stuff isnt a result.

Scratch that, I got it flipped. Seems rich will give you carbon build up but nothing too serious.

Here's the latest, I've been driving around on the new tune for a few weeks and all seems to be well. There's still a very slight bog sometimes when it's cold but overall it drives well. I wish I knew what caused it to run rich
