Audio Help

So I have 2 wires in the trunk, I assume a positive and negative. I also have a set of RCA jacks in the back. There is a volume control on the dash. There is a power wire with fuse in the engine bay duct tape to the side. There is no negative. I assume this was a setup for a sub for the stock system. Is there no negative needed in the engine bay?

I'm looking to add a powered sub.

Is the power currently connected to the positive post?

The power wire is duct taped to the side of the battery because it's not in use.

I don't see a negative though?

It sounds to me like they may have grounded it to the chassis. Just need to find out where. Opinions vary in regards to where to ground an amp. I always grounded mine to the battery but I know some who experienced a whine so they needed to install an isolator between the alternator and battery to eliminate it. I do agree with your analysis that a sub and amp were probably installed.

Looks like a professional install. According to the previous owner it was. What are the RCA cables for?

The RCA cables run into an amplifier and then the amp to the subs. Before anything is hooked up I would check out the head unit to see exactly what has been installed and how. It does sound like a good setup but better to be sure than sorry. The volume control would allow you to regulate the amount of bass from the subs.

The head unit is the base stock radio. Does it have RCA jacks on the back? Seems like most OEM base HUs I've pulled do not.

Nope no RCA.
I had to tap into the rear speakers for my amp.

Sent from the future.

They probably used a PAC interface. It connects to your factory harness near the HU and provides RCA outs.
