My 2012 Mustang V6 Base Mod Thread (with reviews)

I'm going to update this thread whenever I add a mod wether it be simple or pretty complex. I'll give my thoughts on each mod here.

My 2012 Mustang V6 Base Mod Thread (with reviews)

One of my first mods was the Steeda CAI and Steeda tune.

I added both of these at the same time since the Steeda CAI requires a tune. Overall install was probably a 2 out of 5. Pretty straightforward.

The Steeda CAI is very well built. The machined parts of the CAI are very well crafted. I'm very impressed with the overall workmanship and the CAI sounds awesome with each shift. I know people say the stock intake is plenty good enough but I personally believe this mod is well worth it based on sound alone.

I initially loaded the 87 octane tune by Steeda. I definitely noticed some power increase and better throttle response. I then loaded the 91 tune and there is a huge difference from stock. The combination of the 91 tune and CAI are an amazing upgrade and well worth it IMO.

I've requested a 93 race tune so I will update this poss after I play around with it.

4.5 out of 5

It all sounds good.
Now what does it cost to get another Steeda tune. Assuming you got 2 with the initial purchase.??
You should consider going back and fixing your personal info where you had listed a 2078 Mustang GT. LOL However that happened.

I've also added 2 new speakers up front. The base stock speakers are equivalent to 1987 Sanyo boom box speakers. They kick up the bass on them so they sound mediocre at best but really they are pretty ****ty.

I went with the JBL GTOs since they are 2 ohm. They sound significantly clearer and the volume can be cranked without distortion. I think this is worth the time and money (55.00). Install was pretty simple and they bolted right in. I spliced my wiring vs. buying the adapters. Install was probably a 2.5 out of 5 as far difficulty.

I'd say overall a great upgrade.

3 out of 5 stars.

Did the clutch spring assist removal mod last week. Removal was pretty easy and probably took me 10-15 minutes going slow. I'd say removal is probably a 2 out of 5 in difficulty.

I definitely like this mod. Clutch response is MUCH more linear. I highly suggest the removal of the clutch assist spring for a better feeling, more predictable clutch. I give this a 3 out of 5.

Installed the Borla S Type axle backs. Pretty straightforward install and pretty great that Ford just uses clamps instead of welds for the mufflers. I'd say 2.5-3 / 5 on the install.

The axle backs definitely sound better than stock, little more growl overall. I still have stock manifolds and mid-pipe.They are pretty quiet at idle, basically stock sounding. When you get in the higher RPMs is when you can really start to hear them, and they sound great. Between shifts there is some popping, etc that sounds pretty mean. Zero drone at all. I can't see getting any exhaust that is not at least as loud as these and I'm old. Sound great overall. I'd give this mod a 3 out of 5.

Added a Boss 302 strut tower brace. Probably doesn't do jack **** but I got it cheap and it kind of looks cool. Install is a 1 out of 5.

Probably just for looks for the most part. Not the best upgrade but I'll take it for what I paid. 1 out of 5 stars.

Added 3.55 FRPP gears. This is the only mod I paid to have installed, which sucks. I would say the actual install would be a 5 out of 5. I looked at doing it myself but several specialty tools and a press is needed.

Gears made a huge difference. Every gear pulls much harder now except 6th. Basically think of it as your 2.73 1st gear is equivalent to your 2nd with 3.55s, 3rd is equivalent to 4th, etc. Makes the car jump off the line. This mod combined with the 93 tune has transformed this car from a wienie that a Honda V6 could beat into a pretty damn quick car that could hang with lots of quick cars.

I'd say 4 / 5. The only reason I don't give a 5 / 5 is I've only had them for about 200 miles so unsure of reliability. I plan to drain the fluid and add new at 500-1000 miles.

Updated the factory shift knob to a black ball style knob. Install was a 0.001 out of 5.

This is a pretty nice upgrade. Love the new shift knob but due to it's minor impact I rate it pretty low. 1 out of 5 overall.
