Help with Wheel and Tire Selection

So what size wheel and tire selection would be best for weight / performance? I currently have the stock 17s. I know the 19s and and 20s are a bit heavier.

18x10.5 Enkei PF-01 from tire rack if you need them now. 18x11 Forgestar F14 from Vorshlag if you can wait 6-8 months.

For all around performance, the BFG Rival S has served me well in 315/30-18 on this car. I have used the Kumho Ecsta V720 on several other cars and been very pleased (especially with the price tag, considering that I got 500 very hard track miles on them), but they are quite noisy, and you need to check them for abnormal wear every so often. The Bridgestone RE-71R is also a solid choice, very soft, great all around grip, creating a very precise driving experience (to counter the BFG's somewhat looser tendencies). Dunlop's Z2 Star Spec is also a good tire, not as sticky as the rest, but lasts longer.

Notice that Nitto was not on my list. This is for a reason, they have not had a competitive performance tire in about 10 years (like Toyo in that regard).

Help with Wheel and Tire Selection

Are there any rub issues at all with wheels and tires that wide?

Also those wheels are very expensive. Need something easier on the budget.

No rub issues.
I have learned the hard way with my camber plates that of the following, you may only have two: fast, cheap, reliable.

A cheaper and still reliable option is to pick up a set of brembo wheels, then put the Kumho on there. They are $188/ tire (about $100 cheaper than anything else worth using).

What is your price range, and are you actually racing, or just using it on the street?

Just mainly street. I was looking at either some 18" take offs or maybe some AM wheels but definitely open to suggestions.

I just spent $650 shipped for a set of 18" 15-16 mustang GT takeoff's with 10 miles on them. Needed a set that's good year round since this my daily driver.

Even the 19's I have on mine are close to $2000 for tires and wheels, the weight are pretty close to the stock set up, the difference being the 275/40 being heavier than the 255/40 my car came with.

I had picked out a set from tirerack of 19 x 8.5 and they had the same tires I now have and they were going to run me $1450 shipped. But the tires were on clearance so they were less than half price. Only problem with that is when it's time to replace them, it would cost a lot more. Saved $800 getting these and replacements are cheaper too. They even had the tpms sensors.

I'm considering putting 235/55/17's on the stock rims. Any problem doing this?

Thanx. I was happy with the outcome myself. And my 2014 learned the new sensors so I didn't have to train them. Good thing to cause the tpms tool wouldn't when I tried to. So I wasted money on it. Oh well. Does work cause I retrained my 14 wheels.

Those look - exactly like my take-offs They really look great and stand out on the previous gen models. The car is set up for 18" rims, btw - the suspecsion and speedometer are set up that way since almost every car aside from the base models came with 18" tires.

Watch out at full lock if you originally had 17's, there is a spacer you can get from AM to prevent rubbing.
