Just think of it this way...

How pissed would you be if the guy in front of yours' spoiler flew off and smashed into your car.

It may never happen... But they come bolted on for a reason.

3m it and bolt it! My GT500 spoiler came with both, 3m tape on the spoiler along with 4 bolts. Bolting it to the trunk took an hour and I never have to worry about it.
If your even questioning it then do both. Just my 2 cents.

How mad would you be if I farted in your car? Because that has about the same % chance happening. Lol

It took me less than an hour to drill the holes and install the Foose spoiler on my S550. It's not rocket science.

I'm sure it's not, however, I'm prone to ****ing **** up. therefore, I don't trust myself drilling holes.

I did a bit of searching online and there have been people installing spoilers on cars with only 3m tape on several makes and models. They talk about how fast they have gone and never had a problem...

Including the couple I found that said it flew off one day.

So do what you want and good luck.

If it flew off at all it was due to poor prep. It's all in the prep, trust me as I have had to pull my hood scoop off and it damn near broke the scoop.

If Ford was convinced it would hold up permanently with just tape they would not go to the expense of installing bolts in the spoiler and making holes in the trunk.

Anyone who says it will fly off has never tried to remove one of these.

I agree the 3M tape will hold the small factory spoiler in place. Years ago my Dad had me remove the rain guards on his two rear doors. I could not pull them off. I had to take some fishing line to cut the 3M tape then use 'sticker be gone' to remove the 3M tape residue.

I believe it WILL hold it in place. It is after 5-7 yrs (WAG) when the tape deteriorates that I see it flying off. I doubt 3M will say you can use it to hold a spoiler in place.

Jay,

bolt it down. Either you, a friend, or pay a mechanic one hour labor

Check out the parts list for all the spoilers on American Muscle including the OEM spoiler. They all come with 4 bolts and under the Q&A section for the OEM spoiler, AM indicates the bolts are a must as does Ford. Here's the link:

2010-2014 Mustang Spoilers & Wings | AmericanMuscle | Free Shipping

But this thread is now a moot point as the OP has given more reasons for not installing the spoiler as designed with the bolts. He has asked and now has his answers, it's time to s**t or get off the pot. Well that was a fun exercise

Agree with ox. Think of it this way... Install it properly with tape only first. Check it daily for awhile, it's not going to go from tight to blowing off your car instantly. If it starts to loosen at any point, take it off and do the bolts.why drill into your body if you dont need to?

Thing is, it wont loosen up. The plastic will likely give before the tape will.

The problem I had was the spoiler didn't fit quite flush. The gap was a little too big for my tastes. I went ahead and used screws and that cinched it down flush. My spoiler was a copy, though. Injection molded plastic, so it had a little flex. Factory spoiler probably fits better.
