This is why it's better to do it yourself

So, trying to get around to putting on all the parts I have collected and the project is adjustable end links. One of my employees is in school for auto tech and asked if he could do it for practice. I figure, shop with a lift and proper tools with an instructor nearby, what could go wrong?

So he gets done Friday, brings the car back to me at work, and said everything is good to go. On my drive home there is a clunking sound. I give him a call and he just says that with spherical bushings more NVH is going to happen. I say OK and hang up.

Today I want to check if something is loose, because it's definitely not a normal sound. Took me about 10sec to see the issue. Guess I'll stick to using a jack and stands in the driveway.

Here's a pic, comment when you see the problem, lol.

Forgot the other bolt on strut, unless you took that off.

Besides bolt missing, link installed and adjusted improperly.

There actually isn't another bolt on the strut. That's correct. If you look at the end link there is a silver inset that is supposed to go between the sway bar and end link, and end link and strut. The way it's assembled it provides no function other than to throw off the alignment of the end link (it should be straight up and down instead of angled like it was).

All fixed and clunk gone.

Lol yep, dumbass put the spacer on the wrong side. That said... most of these guys are going to be doing one piece factory style ones, and the instructor could be an idiot... or just was not there or it was Friday etc...

Yes, always DIY.

This is why they are in school; to learn. Hopefully you took the car back to class and used it for a "learning" lesson on what goes wrong when a part is installed incorrectly.

Like other have said, Show them their mistakes and they need to pay attention before they start taking parts off. Sometimes, i take a lot of pictures of things before i start doing something i have never done before.

Agree with the others - lesson learned, but we all started somewhere. Hope you took it back to show & let them fix it correctly.
Brings back a memory of when my folks got a new 1953 Oldsmobile. (long time ago) I had opened the hood just to look & didn't get the hood closed all the way. My Dad spotted it right away & didn't get mad & yell, but said he didn't mind me doing that, but if I was going to do it "do it right".
At 73 I still do all my oil changes, brakes, & anything else I do myself.

Yes, I showed him the differences in a factory and aftermarket endlinks and explained that for proper articulation of the link the spacer is needed. He was happy to learn.

In the very near future, he might be the mechanic that will be working on a warranty fix for your car.

A title they gave me, lol. I sell a part for the Raxiom that lets you use the factory satellite radio antenna for the GPS system, but I don't have a storefront or website or anything. It basically identifies that I sell stuff and am not a fraud I guess.
