Smell after hard acceleration

Yesterday night I floored my car from 60-100 and as i was slowing down there was a smell and the car drove weirdly as i was decelerating. After that everything went back to normal. I know there is a problem with the brakes because i did a health report a few weeks ago and it said that, however is there anything else that i need to get checked out? It is a 2014 automatic with 25,000 miles on it.

Describe "weirdly" for us.......and did you use the brakes to slow down, or just take your foot off of the gas?

Also if there's a problem with your brakes why on earth would you be running car up to 100mph? Seems more than mildly irresponsible, to be halfway polite.

I gently applied the brakes to slow down, the steering wheel was shaking a little and it seemed like the transmission wasnt working correctly

It was on a four lane highway with literally no one else on the road and no one but me in the car

How many miles on the car? If it's fairly new or never really been run hard it's not uncommon to have that smell after running the car hard.

I would think since your vehicle health report said your brakes were messed up, the smell is more than likely your brakes

Dont rule out the catalytic converters. My car smells funny every time I floor it. Started at 0 miles and still smells two years and 62,000 miles later.

As everyone was reading this posting, GENTLY TURNING OUR HEADS, OH SO SLOWLY, TO THE LEFT AND RIGHT, KEYBOARDS SHAKING A LITTLE UNDER OUR FINGERTIPS and JUST THAT QUICK, THE KEYBOARD WAS NO LONGER SHAKING!

I Apologize to the Management for the use of four different colors. After this was posted, I went to the nearest corner, sat facing the wall and said four Hail Marys.

I notice BMW's and other so called "high end" cars have a smelly after burn on highways when they floor it to pass cars.

Some gas can result in that smell when the cats get hot from a hard acceleration.

Catalytic converters sound like the culprit. My 2014 V6 Premium only has 12000 miles on it and when I open it up on the highway I get that weird somethings burning smell.

I have a 2013 with 21K and when I run it hard I get a smell also. It has more to do with motor running hotter. It is not a bad smell, just heat related, not from the cat either.

I looked at the air filter yesterday and it was really dirty so I changed it. Don't know if it has to do with this issue

Did you fix your brakes yet? That's kinda important.

My car has the same smell and according to Google it's normal for our cars. The shaking could have been from the brakes if they are bad if one brake was braking harder than the other. As for the transmission it depends on what you mean. What I'm thinking you might be referring to is that the car stays in a lower shift. For example when I floor my car since the car learns your shifts it try's to stay in that sweet spot where it'll accelerate quickly I think mine stays above 3000 rpm for a bit then if I don't accelerate it shifts up a gear. Now I did do the fuse reset on my car so that could be it.

I drive mine like a bat out of hell daily on highways and it never smells. Out of curiousity what kind of oil do you use and does it burn oil between changes?

You're probably burning road gunk off of the cats before they have a chance to stick around.

Sounds like the best solution to me!

Did the smell make it to you through the website?

Were you in your car with the windows up when the smell took you captive?

I blame Taco Bell.

Already told you where to go bro. 👍

Easiest way to get rid of that smell is to go with an OR mid pipe.

Seriously I'm a little curious as to this whole snow thing. I honestly have never smelled anything on my car no matter how hard I drive it. Does it smell like burnt oil?

Just FYI and no inflammatory remarks but the ME forum is not made up of mainly V6 enthusiasts. With that said, there are a bit of V6 enthusiasts on this forum. This forum is made up of V6, V8 and 4 cylinder enthusiasts. This forum is made up of Roush, Saleen, Boss, Gt500, Cobra enthusiasts as well.

The forum has sections and this thread is created in the 2011-14 V6 section. That means this section pertains to 3.7 V6 owners. Any person is more than welcome to join in but not sure why any Gt500 owner would want to join in on a V6 thread especially a thread like this.

Perhaps you would get a better response atmosphere in the Gt500 section. Just a thought and friendly suggestion!
