Put the ole V6 on a dyno

Local shop was having a dyno day so I decided to see what power I was producing before I got the ported manifolds and ported TB on.

Apparently my 50 got me 2 pulls but no torque readings since they were just offering quick pulls to get people in and out.

Made 2 pulls

Temps were a tad over 100 in the shop, humidity was 82%, IAT was over 150F and hood was kept down.

Pulls were on a mustang dyno

First Pull was 259 peak hp
2nd pull was 264.3 peak hp

All pulls were made in 4th gear with 2.73 gears. I hit the 135 limit on the dyno they had set up @ about 6800 rpms

When I go back after the ported mani and tb come in I will get a full dyno with torque readings. I will probably also be switching to MPT since steeda says I won't need a retune for 80mm TB and ported manifolds.

Any questions feel free to ask I will try to answer to the best of my abilities.

Sweet man! I would trust steeda though. It might smell enough for the tune to adjust to it. 85 mm and it might be a different story.

It should have been done in 5th gear as it is 1.1 on the MT82. Your numbers more than likely a bit higher than you posted.

Those are about the same number I pulled in Carlisle PA for the Ford Show. I don't have headers or deleted cats, just the magnaflow axle back, 93 octane Bama Race Tune, Alum drive shift, airaid CAI, bigger TB. They did forth gear, to 6500 RPM, I have 3:31 gears and car did 125 mph. Did 261.3 HP and 247.22 torque, this was outside and about mid 80s and humid.

What kind of dyno was that?

Nice numbers. I'm sure you can easily find a few more ponies with better conditions.

You know I bought a 8 year 75K, Ford Premium Care Extended Warranty so I don't know if I will do anything more. Plan to have the car a long time and don't want to push the warranty issue.

Yea I'm sure I could. It was hotter than hell in there lol.

All and all 264 on a mustang dyno in those conditions is acceptable. Hopefully with the ported parts I'll be able to gain a few.

I was hoping for more but they always say the mustang dyno is a heartbreaker lol, but it's just a number. The real way to check power is 1/4 mile at a time which I hope to do soon.

Yes I agree it should have been done in 5th.

Was my fault I guess I was a little afraid to try 5th.

I still have a stock drive shaft and I wasn't even redlined at 135 in 4th. I probably would have been ok, maybe next time i'll grow a pair and do it in 5th

My question is that both of our cars have about 260 HP with some modifications, with the engine gross HP is 305 and I saw on American Muscle video a stock one on their dyno tested before they did their stage 1 and 2 test was about 258 or so. So I wonder what are we really gaining for our money?

I wouldnt take her over 235 with the stock shaft. Ford put the limiter at 115 for a reason. Be careful with that.

Lots of variables...different dynos, conditions so on so on.

Mustang dynos typically read lower dyno jets typically read higher though

Nice. So what made the biggest gain outside of tune? The cat deletes?

Nice numbers. I would like to get on a dyno jet for comparisons sake but that wouldn't help me when it comes to comparing my previous dyno.

If you get a base pull on the dynojet it would. Most cases you usually pay for 3 pulls so could do it the following:

Pull 1: base
Pull 2: ported manifold installed
Pull 3: ported manifold tuned

Of course this could only happen assuming you still have stock manifold or spare XD.
