80mm Throttle body on v6... Help

So I recently installed an 80mm throttle body on my 3.7 mustang. It will cruise just fine, but if I go WOT it goes into limp mode.

Any suggestions on what I should check first before trying to get a replacement.

Limp mode can indicate a fault in the throttle body and in your case it most likely is that. It does not always throw a code but you can check that anyway. There is not much you can do but replace, I assume you have check that it is plugged in fully. It is the price we pay for drive by wire but at least we don't crash and burn when the TB dies.

Problem is fixed. Had to remove the intake manifold fins that are located right behind the throttle body. Apparently when I would go WOT the throttle body would contact these fins.

Thank you for all who attempted to help.

So how is it? Did it improve your performance at all?

I'm interested in your thoughts & comments of what you noticed different in how it now drives after installing your 80mm throttle body, and if you noticed performance gains. Thanks.

It's hard to say really. I've only drove for about 4 miles with it. Reset the ecu so it's relearning now and I haven't got a retune to see if there is any thing needed there. I've I had to give my opinion on it now I would say I gained in the lower rpm ranges more than anything.

I have an afraid CAI and it is approximately 5 mm larger than the 80mm TB. That being said it was about 20mm larger than the stock one.

All in all for 180 I would say it's worth the money.

It's a GT throttle body modified to fit. Gentlemen on this forum does them.

Can you say who? I'm interested in p&p upper and lower intake manifolds. I think I'd like to pair this with that at the same time. Would this help with future plans of going fi?

The only thing you need to do is modify the screw holes and take the fins out from inside the intake, other than that plug and play.

So with the gt tb does it automatically adjust to the added air flow like the 73mm? Or should I have a revised tune ready for when I swap

I would say an updated tune will benefit it but probably not completely necessary.

I can ask the guy if he wants me to advertise for him, but I wont release his name unless its ok.

However if you search the forum his name will pop up

I purchased one of those same TB from him last year. I did not want to break out the fins so I made a spacer to go between the TB & Intake . I have retuned & I love the added torque on take off ..Click image for larger version
