O2 sensor woes

I just had my upstream oxygen sensors replaced on my '13 v6. First off Ford wants way too much for a couple of sensors. I ordered the oem NTK from AM but when I went to put them in I had an issue. Both pre-cat are readily visible but down behind the engine close to firewall and transmission tube. I couldn't get leverage on the socket or extensions. I gave up and Pepboys put my parts in for an hours worth of labor. I can't believe how few shops will put in customer supplied parts nowadays! Is there something I was missing? I feel cheated by ford for making these a pain to reach... Only option I saw was dropping the mid-pipe to have zero access issues to the sensors which wasn't happening in my parking lot.

You know that warm and fuzzy feeling? That means something bad is about to happen...
