Humming/Grinding sounds...

So I've had my 3.7 for about a month now, and about a week and a half, maybe 2 weeks ago I noticed something I reaaaaally don't like

So while driving, everything is fine and dandy... but, once I hit 40, maybe 45 mph and let off the gas, when I give it gas again, my revs drop down to about 1 grand and as I attempt to accelerate, the car just sounds like it's grinding, humming maybe. the car struggles greatly to accelerate at a normal rate, and once I can push the gas enough to get the sound to go away, it shoots the revs all the way up to 4000-4500 and the car takes off. not sure what's going on, had a mechanic look at it and he tried telling me he noticed no problems.. car has 3.73 gears in the back, I'm wondering if maybe the car needs to be re-tuned? I'm new to my mustang, so I'm not 100% on how everything works. Any and all ideas/recommendations are greatly appreciated. Click image for larger version

Does it have any other mods that you know of? Did you buy it from a dealership?

bought it from a private seller. 3.73 gears, lowering springs, rear control arms and that's it.

If he didn't give you a hand held tuner, go ask him for it. He might have returned it back to stock before he sold it to you. Your speedometer is probably off and your computer doesn't know what to do.

If he did those mods I guarantee you he had a tune on it. You may have to buy a new tune for it if he wont give you his, which I doubt he will. Make damn sure he has it back to stock before you do anything either way.

Ask him to set it back to factory. Any decent seller would have done that or sold you the tune and handheld with it. Then you will have to get a new tune. Looking at close to 4 bills.

I'm fine with spending the money if that fixes the issue. the guy was kind of a dbag when I was buying it, car has a history that isn't very pretty and the kid seemed like a trouble maker, he surely won't do me any favors

Well better take it to the dealer and get it flashed then get yourself a tune. A lot of people are big on MPT around here. Good luck!

Hmm did you know any of the problems when you test drove it. What I'm thinking is possibly whoever installed the gears didn't install them right because of the grinding but if you tested it and it drove fine then it's probably not that. Good luck if you have to end up taking it to the dealer. Most of the techs are pretty much clueless. I would take it to any local places you might have who do good work on gears they might be a better option if it's grinding gears and not something electronic like the tune.

I can't really tell if it's a grind or a vibration, it feels like a grind, sounds like just a rough vibration. gonna look into it and take it to a shop tomorrow to get a tuneup. thanks!

Is it bad that I find comfort in knowing I'm not the only one who's had this problem? Haha. Thank you for your help! I appreciate it, I'll have my guy check it out.

Just an FYI that I believe the dealer stock tunes for the 3.7 are for the 2.73 or 3.31 gears. I believe the dealer won't have a stock tune for the 3.73 gears. At least, this is what I've read from a couple of other members on this forum when they checked with the dealer. Please let me know if there's an update to this info, thanks.

No they wont, but with any tune you always want to start with the stock tune and make sure you back the stock tune up. They will flash it back to its original specific tune, then you can install your custom tune.

You need to be a liitle careful when messing with your ecu. Follow the SCT instructions to the letter or you could end up in a world of trouble. Example, a guy on here was out of town and he had tune issues and didnt have the stock tune backed up. Makes for a bad trip!

The guy you bought it from 'might' have had an aluminum driveshaft and half assed put in the factory one. I would check for loose nuts. Just something else to check out
