3.7L OEM Muffler Comparison (Auto vs. Manual)

I have a 3.7L auto mustang. I decided to pick up a set of OEM 3.7L manual mustang mufflers. I did it for the looks. I hate the stock mufflers that have a pipe within the tips. Before I put them on I painted them black with high heat paint. It really cleans up the look of the car. Exactly what I wanted. But after they were installed I was surprised that the manual mufflers had a more aggressive sound. I read that the manual mufflers were supposed to sound different but didn't really believe it. I made a video comparing the differences between the two.

I guess Ford 'thinks' people with automatics wants a quieter sound than people with manual transmissions Thanks for taking the time to do your video. The manual transmission mufflers do sound louder and deeper

No problem. I took a picture inside each muffler for comparison. Top picture auto bottom manual. You can definitely see there is a difference.

I knew this right away when I got my 2012. I noticed my tips seemed to be welded to the actual muffler whereas the auto 2012's looked like the tip was welded onto a smaller diameter piece of metal.

Now my question is why do the 2015s+ V6 sound so different? Auto and the Manuals sound entirely different to our 2011-2014s V6s.

Their exhaust system is totally different than ours. You can look up pictures of it and see.

I know that it is David but can it be replicated?

I am one of the weird ones whom think it sounds pretty good and with some axle backs they sound great too.

the new ones have some kind of resonator box thing underneath that like, makes it sound more even throughout the revs. that's the only way i can describe it. i doubt there's a way to do it on ours without adding that to it.

OK so piggybacking on this. I am looking at changing mine from axle back. One thought I had was going from the stock 2.25" to a 3" muffler. Also going to use the old school CherryBomb brand mufflers that I used on several of my cars "back in the day." By that I mean back in the 70's when hot rodding your ride was souping up your lead sled with all the CalCustom stuff you could afford on a high school budget wage of $1.50/hr.
So this being my first Pony any thoughts from you Mustang old-timers?

I ended up getting them on ebay for $185. The previous owner took them off a week after buying his car making them virtually new.

You should be able to easily sell V6 manual mufflers for $50-100 or more. They seem to be harder to find than GT take offs. At least around NE FL. I looked for quite awhile before settling on $50 GT take offs. Now glad I did because of the rolled tips.

$50 is what I sold mine for...the buyer kept them for a year or so and got his $ back when he re-sold them. The trick is to find someone local as shipping is a lot of $.

idk but more than $100 is a lot. there is a sound difference but not that much.

I most likely did over pay for my mufflers. I was looking for such a long time. As soon as a good pair was available I jumped on them. The manual v6 mufflers do seem to be much more scares.

Let not your heart be troubled. You got what you wanted & are happy. As stated earlier, they are what I wanted, just couldn't find locally, but did find a pair of GTs that were removed with less than 50 miles on them. I'm happy.
