2012 Mustang V6 6speed--intermittant cranking issue....HELP!

ok, so I financed a 2012 Mustang V6 6speed 2 months ago. i have had the car in my possession for a total of about 12 days of the 2 months. it keeps on doing a weird crsnking issue.....sometimes (randomly) i will get in the car and go to start it.....(e brake up, foot on brake pedal, foot on clutch, turn key to on, gauges sweep, turn key to start for a second) car cranks and cranks and cranks....if i leave key in the on position it would crank till the battery died......BY ITSELF.....one time i was driving down the freeway and the car just lost power and stalled out. acted like it lost fuel pressure. then no start again. ive taken it back to the dealership 5 or 6 times.....they think im crazy.....so i finally thought to get a good video of it when it messed up yesterday, called tghe dealership, they sent a tow truck to pick it up and said to bring the video in and let them see......i showed the general manager and he asks me ....why are you not turning the key all the way? im like R U FREAKING KIDDING ME???? u can CLEARLY see my hand turning the key to START until the engine starts cranking....and when i release the key it keeps cranking and cranking and cranking........if i let the car sit (different time periods ranging from 1 minute to overnight or 2 days then it will start up just fine........HELP!! I sure dont want to get stuck with a lemon........Thanks in advance

Give that car back to the dealer. You just found out why the previous owner traded it in.

+1 on taking it back to who sold it to you (hopefully there is a wtty). There is a system where once the starter engages it will crank for 10 secs (or start up) and I know that 10 secs seems like forever. Next time count to see if it is over 10 seconds or not. If it is 10 sec then it is just a starting problem....longer than 10 my guess would be a computer problem. Good luck as intermittent issues are tough to diagnose.

It depends on the dealership. A reputable one will take the car back, or do everything in their power to repair it.

All depends on the dealer. You should have got, at a minimum, a 30 day warranty, even if you did not buy an extended one. Again, depends on the dealer. If you bought it from Mammy's Used Car Lot on the corner, then probably not.

If I ever open a car lot I know what I am going to call it.

I would ask the dealer to check two things to start out with, are you getting a spark at the plug and do you have fuel pressure on your fuel rail; both while cranking it. One has to be missing or the car would start. With computers controlling everything who the heck knows what the problem could be. Possibly a crank position sensor. Way back when cars use to have a separate starting circuit when you turned the key to start and cranked it. Sometimes the cars would start when holding the key in the crank position and die when you let loose of the key and it returned to the run position, if there is anything like this today perhaps you have a bad ignition switch. I would start with having them replace the crankshaft position sensor; this may be one of those problems that you may just have to start swapping out parts until you hit the correct one.

You need to be able to ride with them and duplicate the problem. If you can't duplicate the issue, then they really can't do anything.

Yes I know but it is so Random like when I bought the car I had it for 7 days before it messed up the first time and then it has been in and out of the shop at the dealership and I got it back and it was another 9 days before it did it again. But the first time it happened I was going down the freeway in traffic with no shoulder due to construction and the car just died. Not safe

If the local dealer still hasn't fixed it I believe that Ford has a zone, or district, service manager. You need to escalate the problem to him for help. I believe Ford HQ even has people that you could probably go to. Once they track it down and fix it, I'm sure the car will be fine. I have a 2012 V6 and have never had a problem with it, other than a couple of rattles; engine and electrical have never been a problem.
