There are 13 states that have adopted the California rules.

Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington.

You are correct Siber.
But I don't want you to hold it against me personally... I vote against practically everything that they put on the ballot... Mostly, to no avail.

Nevertheless, it does not matter if your state, county, or township does not test for compliance with the emissions regulations. Federal laws override any state laws. So if you tamper with the vehicles emissions system anywhere in the United States, you are technically in violation of the law.

Well said, I believe that was the intent of my earlier post. You can blame the legislators, but please don’t blame the people. Money + Lobbists = crap laws.

Did you see the bill that has been put to the legislature in California?

It is to ban ALL internal combustion engines in the state by 2040.

Don't misunderstand where I am going with this comment. I am not an advocate of any recreational drug use. However, several States have made it legal to use marijuana recreationally. This is a federal offense.

There is a very fine line in regard to what is and is not enforced. The individual States were set up to have their own governing body. However, big government has been overlooking this for a long time.

How did we get to recreational marijuana? I thought we were discussing automotive emissions

This is gonna get super interesting now, lol.

Edit: Just an FYI, alhohol is considered a depressive drug that has been used for years recreationally and is legal.

I was going to use that as an example when I mentioned federal law overriding state law... But I didn't feel like typing that much! Lol
You're absolutely right. It remains to be seen what ultimately happens.
But much like federal enforcement of emissions laws, on a consumer level at least, I don't expect that there will be vigorous enforcement of the marijuana laws. That is until the feds decide that they want to get a piece of the lucrative tax revenue that the state's get to keep all to themselves for now...

I went through a bunch of crap when I tried to register a 1972 Gran Torino with a 671 GMC Blower on a 429 that did not pass smog because the air pump was not there
The actual Emissions from the Sniffer was less than half what was allowed for that year and model
There really is a good reason I left California in 1994 and don't plan on going back.

Now, all vehicles 1975 and older are exempt from emissions testing.
You wouldn't have any problem at all...

Yup, my grandson's restored '73 Dodge Demon is a non-issue. Another generation gets to experience muscle cars the way they were from back in the day.

In Massachusetts anything 15 or more years old is exempt from emissions testing. So if you have a 2003 or older vehicle it is not emissions tested this year, 2004 or older next year, etc.

California is still a Communist country, from the way the State Legislature and the CHP treats out of state truckers all the way to the total disregard of federal law they they don't deem appropriate to them. I will not be coming back

Luckily we don't have emission testing here in Quebec.
But I'm sure it's just a matter of time before we do.

All the way to when we built Jeffrey Rd in the 1980's and they were putting the no truck signs up before it was paved to the way the Government snubs it's nose to the Federal Government. California is a good representation of a Socialist Government, spend spend spend and tax more when they go broke
Like I said I am from there, born in Lynwood California, been through the 1971 Silmar earthquake and actually left just after Northridge in 1994, I will not be going back

That is the way that it should be everywhere. There really isn't enough older than 15 year old vehicles on the road to make much of a difference.

They don't emissions test in the county that I live in either. One of the very few in CA that doesn't.
Crossing my fingers that it stays that way!
