Stock Shaker 500 stereo & speakers in my 2012 started buzzing about 3 months ago. Cleaned negative grounds from battery and fuse box and thought I fixed it until last night when it started when I turned on the headlights, funny thing is if I turn on the bright lights it stops. The buzzing only happens only when the car is running; it buzzes on AM, FM, CD and Satellite radio even if the volume is turned to 0. I imagine it is a grounding issue but where do I go next. Replaced the original battery and had the alternator checked; the buzzing does not react to engine speed so I don't think it is the alternator.
The problem comes and goes. It was only doing it with the lights on when it happened last and when I turned the bright lights on it would go away. Since I posted it has gone away and I can not get it to come back even when I turn the lights on. I did go under the hood and wiggled the connectors that the headlights plug into so maybe that was the problem; who knows, but I would bet it will return as it usaully does. Sometimes it takes a week or so to return and I can't figure out what causes it to come back. The good news is that I have ordered a new 2018 Mustang and it will be built the week of March 5th, but I would like to get this fixed for the person I sell this one to.
When you think back when it was doing it, was there any drastic temperature changes possibly within that timing? Also, what kind of headlights are you running? Making sure they are not aftermarket HID or something.
At the time our temperature was having some wild swings here in NC, I guess that could have caused it as now the weather is pretty warm and it is not happening. The headlights are the stock ones that came with the car, but like you suggest I have read that aftermarket ones can cause a buzzing in the speakers. From everything I have read, it is probably a ground problem. I have run a few tests and the battery is grounded correctly to the engine and the frame of the car. There must be a bad ground somewhere in one of the circuits, I'm hoping that it was just a bad connection to the headlights and my wiggling it fixed the problem.
