Well, mod #2 is complete...added the flat black decklid panel from AmericanMuscle.com. It arrived earlier in the week and the first thing I did was unroll it, put it under a towel and iron it as flat as I could, then stuck it on the front of the fridge...my wife was thrilled...LOL. I left it there since Tuesday, and now had time to properly install it today. I can tell you that in doing that, it was very flat and easy to work with. Worth the wait!
I washed the car today and cleaned the trunk panel extremely well. Then, I put a nice coat of Mothers carnuba cleaner wax on it, buffed it, and it was slick as a whistle. I cleaned the magnet very well on the back, heated it up with a hair dryer in the garage, and got it situated perfect around the trunk emblem. Then, working my way outward, got it to lay just perfect.
I'm very pleased with it. It is sitting just perfect on the trunk, no wrinkles or bubbles or places where it's off the body. It's just right. I think it gives the rear end more depth, makes it look a little "meaner", and kinda gives a throwback flare from Mustangs of old. For $40, I think it's a pretty simple little mod that adds a cool touch if you take your time, prep it, and do it right. If you hurry it, it's going to look like crap.
The instructions talk about taking it off every time you wash the car. I almost hate to do it, because it looks just right, but I guess I'll need to. We'll see how it holds up and I want to keep an eye on the paint underneath so that it's not jacking anything up, but I really like the look.
