Interested in improvements tips on my 2010 v-6

Hey guys and gals, I just got my first mustang. I like it alot but like all other red blooded americans I need more power. It only a v-6 due to budget. I would love any improvement tips that you veterans have learned and are willing to pass on to me. Please help me make my new baby even better.

Re: Interested in improvements tips on my 2010 v-6

nitrous would be good, the 4.0 can handle a 75 shot (75 to the wheels/100 crank) without a tune with no problem, Autos with this have run as low as 13.1 in the 1/4 with drag radials. I believe Americanmuscle.com has them on sale for $58 bucks right now.

Other than that there's a Vortech supercharger on the same website for $3400 that will add about 90 HP to the wheels.

Then of course there's bolt ons (air intake, exhaust, tune, and rear end gears with trac loc) that will all together shave about 1.1 seconds off the 1/4 mile time, but if you do the math the nitrous is the most cost effective and it's only there if you need it.

I went the bolt on route and am pretty happy with the performance, best 0-60 is 5.8 best 1/4 mile is 13.8

Re: Interested in improvements tips on my 2010 v-6

Hey, thanks for the advice. I think I'm gonna try the bolt on route like you. I want it there as a constant boost. Not big in nitrous ha ha. I'd kill my fool self. I was thinking along the lines of the cold air intake/super charger along with vortex chip and changing out my headers, as well as a catback system. Of course this may take quite some time. You think the gains would be worth it??? I want to be as strong as the base 4.6. As low as ford dropped us this go round I don't think the jump from v-6/210 to v-8/325 is to far outta reach. Or am I just dreaming ha ha ha.

Re: Interested in improvements tips on my 2010 v-6

well headers will do almost nothing, they might add 10hp after it's already supercharged and the sound is honestly no different.

If you do the math the v6 only needs about 265 HP to have the same 1/4 mile as the GT from the weight difference, the manual also has way steeper gearing naturally which helps too.

Stock GTs run about 13.6ish 1/4 mile, (although plenty of people can;t break below 14.3 with the manual) and my 4.0 ran a 13.9 with the bolt ons

Bolt ons get you to about 245/250 crank HP max (that's air intake, dual exhaust, dyno tune) so that alone would be a decent amount of help.

From there, the base vortech should make it a GT killer with no problem.

Nah, San Francisco California, lol

I'd start with the trac lock and gears, one tire fires are no fun!

First off welcome to the site from a fellow memphrikan (south of the border, however).

I'd start off with intake, exhaust, gears, and a custom tune from dynospeed here in town. You can install all but the gears yourself or I'll be more than happy to lend a hand. Those mods alone should make a huge seat of the pants improvement and keep a smile on your face all spring long.

The only question I have to ask is are you planning on keeping the warranty in tact on this vehicle? Modifications are questionable to most dealerships when it comes to having warranty work, especially when it comes to modifications to the engine/tune.
