This is the real deal. The embargo was lifted yesterday and the new 5.0 and V6 were tested and all the specs were givin out. But any way, what do you mean "real deal"?

Re: 2011 Mustang Reviews

Well I've seen different #'s,some stating 390 and some 435 WHP so I will wait till the real deal meaning until its out on the streets. Hopefully that 435 is the real deal and they under rated again. I'm just not keen on buying something brand new that won't handle more boost. Trade in the 07 that's bout to be paid for and have 16k car note or spend 6k on a blower and have the same power? What's your take on that?

Re: 2011 Mustang Reviews

there have been no dynos for 435 WHP. If you read motortrend gave you what they "think" is the flywheel hp/tq not the rear wheels.

Here is a link with the actual dyno numbers and then at the bottom they say at the engine what they think.. which cant be accurate as they dont know the drive train loss.. seems its less than before ... or the engine is more powerful

Re: 2011 Mustang Reviews

Well DDTCM the compression ratio on the new 5.0 is much higher then your 4.6.

4.6 compression is 9.80.1 Vs 5.0 compression 11:1

Which means your car can take more boost. Then again the new engine has forged Rods and crank which is ideal for boost applications. All you would have to do is get higher flowing heads for the 5.0 (which can lower the compression) and you'll be set for boosting. Since your 07 is already paid off I'd boosted it. Then again I don't think the 4.6 from 2005-2010 has forged internals? But I'm a more of a fan of high compression and loopy cams. But that is just me, and like SpectorV said that 435HP is a flywheel guess which they talk about in another post.

Re: 2011 Mustang Reviews

No forged internals on 05-10 but with forged internals a year after the blower, the hp will be way over that of a 2011 and be safe. That's my main concern,I'm not gonna spend 16k and be limited on boost when I can do it for less with the 07. I've already looked into a 5.0 package with 435hp and decided to go with boost 1st since I will get more than 435 for less and the car is not a daily driver so in another year forged internal will go in or the 5.0 or 5.4

Re: 2011 Mustang Reviews

the 5.0 does not have forged pistons which are a MUST for high boost applications. It will end up taking 8-10 psi though about like the 96-98 cobras.

I imagine they are using a 15% drivetrain loss if not less. 435 seems possible while 425 seems realistic

So it will take the same amount of boost as the 4.6 then and has weak pistions like the 4.6?

Re: 2011 Mustang Reviews

96-98 cobras will take about 10 psi~ from what ive seen, the 05-09 will probably take a bit more~ but who knows its been a long time since ive seen much about those year cobras being boosted, I guess the 3v 4.6 should take more boost since it has lower compression.

Re: 2011 Mustang Reviews

05-10 will take 10 safely and up 12 or more depending on if you are willing to roll the dice. I'm just wondering if you are limited the amount of boost on 2011 is that gonna put you at the same HP as a boosted 05-10? I thought I remember seeing a thread somewhere saying that about 6psi would be the max on the 2011 due to compression.

Re: 2011 Mustang Reviews

Well think about it like this, the 03/04 cobra on 8-10 psi puts out 390hp and with 14 generally puts out 460rwhp so thats 70 more rwhp for 4 more psi. Thats about 17.5hp per psi on 8.5:1 compression. This is a root blower of course so its apples to apples is the only way to make a fair comparison (not twin screw)

The higher the compression im not sure if it alters the gain per psi as psi is a measure of resistance~ thats why you drop psi when you get a better flowing component. Dont higher compression cars make more per psi? Or am I crazy?

Re: 2011 Mustang Reviews

I'm getting pretty excited-even though I still really like the styling of the S197. I reeeallllyy wish they had the new 5.0 in the S197 platform. I am still having a hard time warming up to the rear styling of the `10 chassis.. I also rolled into a local dealer and had them print up some pricing, for ordering an `11 GT with the Brembo Brake package-which by the way-is not available with the new 6 speed AT .

Re: 2011 Mustang Reviews

+1 the 05 was FAR due for a 400hp engine... it should have been in 05 but... no competition and cutting prices = a revamped 3v 4.6L with only 300hp.

Re: 2011 Mustang Reviews

What's the chassis code for this car? Spec I am pretty sure the higher compression cars will see a dyno-graphically exponential gain of power with higher PSI. (For some of you guys out there exponential does not mean HUGE power gains, it just means the power will grow at a faster rate in almost improper lay-mens terms ..think 2^2 2^3 2^4)

Therefore, if (haven't checked the specs yet) the '11 is lower compression it will safely handle slightly more pressure with similar but less power yeilds per PSI assuming the engine is built to the exact same quality and standards as it's predecessor. Although, one factor to remember is flow. How much better will this engine flow. There are plenty of variables which may prove this wrong.

Re: 2011 Mustang Reviews

I just don't see trading in the 07 for a value of 16k then having a note of 16k for the remainder of the 2011 and only getting what,390WHP? I could spend 16K on the 07 and have much more.......correct?

I don't agree. I imagine the 2011 is going to have a better response to mods overall. One of the main factors persuading my opinion is the weight. This car is a great overall platform to begin on. Also, I know your looking at boost, and 10psi of boost with a 2011 and supporting mods will find you above an 05GT with the same mods by a great margin then figure weight into that equation.

Just as the '99 turned the '96-'98 out of the eye of the of the consumer, the 2011 will do the same. Look for a much greater following for the coveted '5.0' than a '4.6' I know the market is already huge, but if everything goes the same, the 5.0 will have a much better and competitive market than the 4.6L ever imagined.

Well of course I'm not talking 16k for blower a supporting mods. I mean 16k going towards a new block/blower ect, ect, ect. Then we are talking more bang for the buck.

Re: 2011 Mustang Reviews

well the 2011 is optimized more so than the 2010 so they say so not sure how much wiggle room is there for intake/exhaust/etc but no one knows yet so hopefully it will have gains from that that are good.

The 2011 has a much high compression than the previous year GT's.

The 2011 Shelby GT500 features an all-new 5.4L aluminum engine which is 102 pounds lighter than the previous cast-iron engine and uses Ford-patented plasma-coating technology. The car is also the first modern day Shelby GT500 that won’t require buyers to pay a gas guzzler tax.

DDTCM: That's the ongoing mental conflict that I have put myself through. I still like my `08-but also like the new 5.0. One of the Techs where I work said the engine with the 3 valve technology lends itself to boost, better than the new 5.0..?
