2011 5.0 Forged?

Does the new 2011 5.0 come with forged internals or not? Ive heard the crank and rods are forged and the pistons are not. I dont see why they wouldnt just forge the pistons as well if thats the case. Seems like they wouldve done that before the crank. And I hear the rods are still the weak point. Also, if the internals are forged, what would hold these engines back? Do they have a higher compression ratio? Just wondering.

They have high compression ratio, it's 11:1 which puts a damper on running a high boost psi. Most are using about 5-6 lbs of boost due to the ratio. Rumor has it that Ford will use direct injection in 2012, which should solve the compression issue and a bump up in HP, but that's just speculation. I don't think the pistons are forged because they used some type is special coating that is used in the ecoboost engines.

nope they have crappy internals, the crank might be forged but I doubt it... basically they wont take much boost with the high compression, about like 96-98 cobras did (maybe a bit more boost)

I dont see the point of the crank being forged if the rods and pistons arent. Oh well, sounds like Ford screwed the aftermarket with this one.

Re: 2011 5.0 Forged?

I read an article in one of the auto mags about the 2011 5.0 which stated that the ford performance division said that a stock engine could take about 10 pounds of boost without touching the internals. This was a quote, but I wish i could find the article again. If I do I will post it, just an observation, but no I do not think the internals are forged.

manual mach 1's have forged cranks and nothing else~

I think 10 psi is possible if the tune is dead on, should top the motor out around 500-550rwhp~

Arent the rods the weakest link? And then the pistons? Why would they just have a forged crank? Not disagreeing, just wondering why.

You gotta remember Ford had to mortgage everything stay alive. Engine programs are expensive, they had to work with-in a limited budget.
