Hey, let him drive it a bit first!

OK, that's enough time.

Pics!

Sweet move... did you order those options or was that how the dealer had it on the lot? I think for sure the 3.73 would be a "must have" item for me.

Re: Delivered: 2011 Sterling Gray 5.0

Yes-the dealer had three different "flavors-all ordered with the same options. It was pouring rain when I picked it up-and is still dirty.. I promise that as soon as I can get it washed, I will start a separate thread/new topic with all of my pictures. I still can't get over how-for lack of a better word-"refined" it is! So smooth, and quiet-and sooo much power..

Thanks & congrats!
Dying to know (after you've had it a few more days) how does it compare to your '08, both before and after the mods on the 'old' one?

Re: Delivered: 2011 Sterling Gray 5.0

Figfuggo,
I have never been crazy about Ford's manual shifter(s)-not since my first Mustang, a 2003 Cobra. I immediately installed a Pro 5.0 short throw shifter-and that 6 speed became really "user friendly". I also had a K&N and a Basanni cat-back. To this day-that was not a "heavily modded" car-but it had the right exhaust note, great shifting, and drove like a train on tracks.. The 2008 was a great looking car-the most similar in its look-to a 67-68 fastback. I didn't care for some of it's fit and finish. The doors didn't seem to close, "like I thought they should"-where the rear bumer cover lined up to the rear fender-it kinda "pooched" a little-the lower grill insert was poorly fit into the opening-as if the plastic in the surround was slightly smaller, than the insert and wasn't truly fastened very well.. It was also plagued by visits to the Service Dept. with some "check engine" lights-either from lean codes or misfire(s).. I will coninue this in a minute..

Re: Delivered: 2011 Sterling Gray 5.0

Don't get me wrong. The `08 was a really cool car , and it was nice to have the privledge of being able to own it. After I put a Hurst shifter on it-it was a pleasure to shift. The Stinger exhaust gave it a great exhaust note, and helped it breathe better. I do regret that I did not use a programmer-after I installed my bigger MAF and CAI. The manufacturer claimed that I would "not need a programmer" with this combination. Alas, more unmetered air, is more unmetered air -and I was responsible for some of the "lean" codes, because I didn't upgrade the ECM. I also thought that the steering rack on the S197 was numb, and seemed to "jiggle" over bumps and anomalies in the pavement -despite making sure that all of my wheels were always properly "balanced".. I owned it for about 13,200 miles. I did like the MaCh 1000 sound system and the 6 disc changer-but didn't like the fact that they removed the trunk button. Adding the Shelby wheels really made the car look cooler. Bear in mind I had 4 SN95 Mustangs-2 Cobras and a Special Anniversary GT, and a MaCh 1. I didn't have these same complaints with those cars. I loved all of them. But, I did also love the `08-despite the niggling complaints/problems.. I know that you cannot relate to this, but-the 2011 is pretty unbelieveable. The car is soooo smooth, quiet-almost refined. (Remember, I'm the guy who has owned 4 SN95s, and an S197) I cannot wait until there is an aftermarket short throw shifter for the car(anyone who knows of one, go ahead and weigh in here, now!)that I can install-it won't be soon enough for me.. I sure miss my 6 disc changer. I am puzzled why they left this out of the Premium(read, 36000.00 car)GT-in favor of other technologies-maybe that's just "the way of the world", now-and you can call me "old fashioned". I'm still kinda "breaking in", the new motor. The car is a real pleasure to drive. Everyone needs a 2011..

Re: Delivered: 2011 Sterling Gray 5.0

DDTCM: traded outright. I have only taken the time to sell my own car, once. Trading is easier-albeit "at a cost". I was within 1100.00 of my payoff. I could have probably "squeezed" them for? a little more $-but agreed to their number-as it was about the best, "strong" trade number-based on all of my research. They gave me 19,750.00 for my 13,400 mile 2008 GT..

The MT82 Coyote applications feature skip shift. That's where the shifter will only go from First to Fourth if you shift within a certain speed range. Ask a Corvette driver: This is for better fuel economy. I also think F bodied cars had them.

According to the 2011 Mustang owner's manual, the skip shift feature in the V8 6MT works as such:

Hey jim,

so this is what i know, from all the LONG articles ive read. the manual comes with skip shift, which basically means the trans forces you to go from 1st to 4th, skiping 2nd and 3rd. this only occurs at low rmps. basically if your not reving the engine, the obd system signals the car that your driving "leasurely" and will force you to skip from 1-4th so you can achieve better gas mileage at lower rpms.

again that feature wont activate if you rev the engine, im sorry i dont remember specifically what range of RPMS you have to be over to take the skip shift out of play.

Thats why i was asking how you felt about it, because many people were anoyed at this stupid feature. im pretty sure they did it to get good gas milage rateings. Dude how could the dealer now tell you about this?
bro call him up, yell and scream say you want another 3 grand off the price LOL
