2010 Mods - I'm so confused

OK I have a 2010 GT, drove the 2011, big mistake, so I'm trying to add more HP to my 2010 because the 2011 was so much fun. I added exhaust and a K&N filter. Good, but what else can I do to add a few more HP???
- I think performance chips are out, even though this website has them at the top. The chip websites say tuners are bad and the tuner sites say the chips are bad.
- I almost ordered a SCT tuner, then read here that they void the warrantee. Even though most of the sites that sell them claim they don't. I only have 5,000 miles on my 2010. Ford racings tuner says other tuners aren't good because they advance the spark, etc.
- Doesn't my 2010 have cold air intake, the intake is way over to the side, isn't that the same as cold air intake?
HELP, I've been researching for a week and with all the conflicting info I'm not any further than when I started.

Re: 2010 Mods - I'm so confused

Here is my .02 worth.

From a warrantee perspective, if it is not a FORD part installed by an authorized FORD installer, then yes in theory your warrantee could be in peril. It is the dealerships responsibility to prove that your aftermarket part caused the failure (e.g. installing lowering springs would not impact your engine warrantee, but could in theory void your shock/struts warrantee). A lot depends on your dealership and how 'mod' friendly they are.

chips vs. tuners. A lot depends on what year your Mustang is. Most later model years use tuners and not chips. The tuner downloads your factory 'tune' and flashes the computer with the new revised 'tune'. This is reversable or in other words you can always download the factory tune back into the computer. Most times you buy a pre-determined modified 'tune' in addition to the tuner (unless you have access to a dyno and can create your own custom tune). A tuner will allow you to change spark, A-F ratios, etc, but DON'T DO IT if you don't have access to equipment to verify you are safely modifying the parameters

So, the key for a tuner is the 'tune'. Quality aftermarket tuners such as Brenspeed or Bamachips/American Muscle have pre-built tunes that are both safe and proven. I would not be concerned with using a tune from one of them. This combined with exhaust/CAI changes will give you the biggest gains.

You do not have a CAI (cold-air-intake), that is were the factory air-box is located. A CAI replaces that box and the tube going into the engine.

Unfortunately, the 05+ Mustangs are much more tightly regulated by the computer or in other words there is not much you can do to it without retuning the computer. A potential bad mistake is to install A CAI without a new tune, which could cause the engine to run too lean.

Another option is to go to your dealer and buy Ford parts and have them do the work. One dealer here actually sells a package for V6 mustangs.

Wow, great info, thanks so much all, very much, I've had a hard time with this, all because of that damn 2011 !!!
I tried hard to trade my car for the 2011 but I would have to give up too much $$ for only 5,000 miles on my 2010. So, since I just got the K&N filter, and for the warrantee I think I might just get a tuner and then reset it to factory if anything ever goes wrong. I don't think my dealer will know or complain. Then maybe get CAI next year or the year after, or gears, pulleys, good idea? Is an SCT tuner good, $379 with free tunes.
I had the Ford dealer put on my Dynomax exhaust, I can recommend them, they claim they add 20hp to the 2010, and I think I believe them. No one I talked to believed the 20hp, but this is my 3rd straight Mustang GT Conv so I've had this engine for 11 years and I think that makes me about the next best thing to a dnyo test.
This is me in the link below, I won the car of the month, UPR is another good place, maybe not as good as American Muscle but still good. They have an SCT tuner also and I get $50 off for winning the contest.
Grand Prize Winner's Mustang
Thanks again.

Oops, yep you are right, warranty, but I'll gladly give up spelling for HP.
And you have a 2011, ugh...

What about a Ford Procal tuner, anyone know about these, compared to the others? They don't claim as much HP as some of the other tuners but Ford has a full page on why not, and it wont hurt the WARRANTY
