Re: Your favorite likes/dislikes with your Mustang

I have had the privledge of owning: 2003 MaCh1, (2) 2003 Cobras, 40th Anniversary GT, and a 2008 GT. Now I have the 2011 5.0 GT. That's 3 different platforms-and I definately have likes/dislikes with the car(s). (I also think that it's "someone's" responsibility to keep these topics "going"-instead of each time I come to check on 'what's happening'-lately at Mustang Evolution-things are static, and there isn't anything "new"..) And if this topic progresses-I will give my input, regarding the different Mustangs I have owned.

the car has its quirks just how it is but I love the 03/04 cobras, best looking in the 99-04 style to me and easy to get hp/tq out of etc

Re: Your favorite likes/dislikes with your Mustang

OK I haven't owned many Mustangs (actually only one) but have had the privilege to drive many. So first of all.......

My Fathers 2003 Mustang is a dream in almost every way. Now I have only two little problems with it. I dislike how heavy the clutch is, but I understand why that is. Also the materials used in the interior for all the Mustangs from 1995-2004 are IMO cheap and harsh but they fit the bill.

Ive also driven my Uncles 2010 GT. What I love about his car is that it is so smooth to drive his car. The clutch on the '10 is so much more effortless to engage then my fathers Cobra. The material of the 2010+ is so much softer and higher in quality then my 2006 (Which you should agree jimbullit since you own both). Even though the 5.0 was a year away I was hoping that the HP and TQ of the 4.6 would go up a bit more then it did.

Then it comes down to my baby. One of my biggest gripes on my car is the trannsmission whine when you accelerate from a dead stop and that whine continues till about 1500 to 2500RPM (guessing). For what little power my 4.0 has I think it makes up in torque, which I love torque. I wasn't to happy that my hood was starting to corrode on the front lip by the passenger side headlamp because of an error when the hood was prepped and painted from the factory (I like to think that **** just happens sometimes, to me). Other then that I love my car (even though it is missing a clutch and two more cylinders)

Re: Your favorite likes/dislikes with your Mustang

My con was not getting one sooner. Expensive to mod.

My pros are that It is a legend in itself. Powerful, Agile, and comfortable. One hell of a following.

I have waited 36 years and now that I own one I can say that the cons really don't matter to me. I know that from here on out I am part of a great class of enthuasists that are great people and love for the mustang has brought us all together.

Re: Your favorite likes/dislikes with your Mustang

2006 -S197 platform
CONS:
Convertible top- vinyl-- I could change it but if you hid it in the cost I'd be happier.
Speed of the top seems to be slow compared to my old 97 Sebring.
Interior carpet could be a little better in quality
No map pocket behind seats.
No Compass
No Exterior temperature readout
No Auto dimming mirror-- once again hide it in the price.
No Tire Pressure Sensor
My biggest gripe: Rattles everywhere the passengers seat, the door panel- cant listen to music with out it rattling,(don't think it's a speaker), the dash by the pillars is horrible. Just ill fitted plastics. Drives me crazy.

Those are all minor things. If I was making the car that I would choose to do differently.
Pros:
Great styling
Fun to drive
Decent horse power and torque
Auto Up and Auto Down power windows-- this is by far my favorite feature.
Big trunk
fairly Open engine bay
Easy and inexpensive to have maintenance or service done on it.
Reliable 40K no major issues.
MyColor gauges.
Safety features.
fairly inexpensive to insure.
Almost a full size spare.

Re: Your favorite likes/dislikes with your Mustang

Great reponses! Yes, I know that we are all loving our cars-I was just even looking for some nit picky stuff, as well.. The SN95: since I have owned more of these than any other-I always thought that this was thee modern rendition of the original. I still want a `93 Notch' and a `67, or `68 Fastback. ! The Terminator-as far as I know-still has the best bottom end of any Mustang engine. My first Cobra was awesome in almost every way-and the clutch was stiffer than any GT, but they seemed to vary a great deal, depending on whose Cobra you were in. Fit and finish were pretty good-although the thing that made me trade the first Cobra was "improperly bonded" paint on the composite hood, that started "flaking off in big chunks", at a car wash ( As for the S197 platform: cool overall. I thought that the changes the factory made to the steering rack, made the front end feel vague and sloppy-at times. The doors(passenger side) didn't seem to latch as good as I thought it should-and I adjusted the latch, as well..

Con: Front floor mats could be of better quality.
pro: 2010 Ford Mustang GT Premium with Sync and all the bells and whistles and a five speed. Just plain enjoyable to drive and all the favorable comments don't hurt either.

Because directionally challenged people like myself need them My grandpas Buick shows the exact pressure in each tire which is awesome. Temp readouts are never accurate since they are near the engine but I loved it on my old car.

Completely agree. They need better quality carpeting.

However, Ford did a great job of listening to what their customers want with the 2010's. That is not something I've seen with Chrysler, or GM in years past.

Re: Your favorite likes/dislikes with your Mustang

2011 5.0 GT Cons: I'm still not a huge fan of my new 6 speed. It needs a short throw shifter, B-A-D. NO 6 disc changer-should be standard in a 36,000.00+ car. I thought I was going to like the center console., and it's reconfigured, 'self'... I do have a trunk release button-again. Why in the world they removed it from the S197-I will never know. The exterior, and interior panels have a much better fit, than The S197. The Sync system is excellent, 'bluetooth-wise'. Better interior materials, also. I also have a love/hate relationship with my 3:73s. Not as good combined fuel economy as I would have hoped for. Makes me think-sometimes-I shoulda gone with the higher gearing-only until I 'step on it' and it has so much power in each gear. POWER! Kinda wish I had opted for the Brembo Brake Package-even though that would have taken the price close to 40 grand-I can add it later, though!

I don't care for white interior in any car but I'm a shade tree mechanic and I get greasy and cant keep the seats clean or the white center console but I try. I'll trade anyone interior if they have cloth seats.

Re: Your favorite likes/dislikes with your Mustang

I think the cloth seats in the Mustang-even the `10s, and the `11s-are pretty 'harsh'-to the touch-and didn't seem as comfortable as the leather. The other problem with white leather-it can actually 'pick-up' dye from certian fabric(s)-such as indigo dye from blue jeans..

Re: Your favorite likes/dislikes with your Mustang

Cons:
It's black, therefore never clean.
Uncomfortable seats; no support; and I can't rest my head on the head rest during long drives.
Fading/cracking paint on the top of the front bumper.
Lack of mods as of right now.
That stupid freaking exhaust leak that I can't find!!

Pros:
It's black, and when it's clean, it SHINES!
V8
Manual
Sound.. Ahh, the sweet rumble
Fun to drive, even more fun to race.
Power potential
Abundance of parts

Re: Your favorite likes/dislikes with your Mustang

Pros
Nice body style and stance
V8 rumble and how it moves
Easy to maintain
RWD
Parts easy to find
Not very expensive

Cons
Burns oil at 78k miles. maybe a not so well built 4.6
Some cheap material in the interior. You practically have to break things to take them off.
Poorly designed front seat belts
Cheap vinyl back seat.
Carpet is cheap material.
Top of 3rd break light dulls easily

To me, overall, my only concern is the oil consumption. The rest is nothing.

Re: Your favorite likes/dislikes with your Mustang

`And I still have to say that the current platform-as I said, having owned (4) SN95s, and (1) S197-is the smoothest, most powerful, NA Mustang I've ever owned. It also appears-as the aftermarket parts manufacturers continue to make more 'go fast' parts for the `11 5.0 platform(which has aready seen 'high 9s' at the `strip)that it will continue to flourish. I enjoy my car enough-to even consider keeping it mostly stock-at least for the foreseeable future!!

I've never had that problem, but I see where your coming from.
My Sebring vert all the lights burnt out one even fell out. Scotch Tape to the rescue. The Mustang is a dream compared to that car.

Re: Your favorite likes/dislikes with your Mustang

2010 V6 Premium - 5sp manual
Pros:
Everything except my one problem. (I had a 2004 40th Anniversary Ed convertible V6 - automatic and it's "get up and go" was waning quickly.)
Love the MyColors, SYNC (I'm completely lost without my bluetooth connection when I drive other cars), auto up windows, leather wrapped steering wheel, sound system (they still had the 6-disc changers in the '10's, but I usually use my SIRIUS). I could go on and on.

Cons:
Doesn't like to go into reverse some of the time. Had new tranny installed and new clutch mechanism - still does same thing. (Have had a suggestion to change to auto, but if I wanted an auto, I would have bought an auto.)

PS - Nate - I had to take the head rest off of my driver's seat. All it was good for is to force my head down to my chin. Once I did that, I can rest my head on the back of the seat with no problems. Not sure if it will work for you, but it's a suggestion.

The seats differ in the 99-04 GT from the new edge seats. The headrest on mine actually leans further back than the seat does, so when I rest my head on the headrest I'm basically looking at the ceiling. I much prefer the seats in the 05-10 Mustangs, and I might try to fit a pair in mine, or buy racing seats.

Re: Your favorite likes/dislikes with your Mustang

2007 GT

Pros:
Great body style
Looks aggressive
Interior and shifter placement
With forged internals and a blower it will run like a Terminator

Cons:
Without forged internals and a blower its just another S197
Its black and I have OCD

Great car and I enjoy it!
