2011 gt first mods

Just ordered a C&L CAI and SCT tuner from american Muscle .
Ive heard you can get a decent jump in performance from a CAI + Tune with the new 5.0. I am going to attempt to intstall this my self shouldnt be too hard. Has anybody installed a CAi on their 2011 ? Any tips or tricks ?

One I get it installed and tuned I'll let you all know how the butt dyno test goes .

LbarJ: You be the "guinea pig"-for the rest of the `11 5.0 owners. `Never mind the claimed increases in HP & Torque, I say, do what SpectorV suggested-get to the dyno before you do the install, and post-install. Report back to the forum with pictures and information, a.s.a.p. !

Re: 2011 gt first mods

Me the Guinea Pig Hahaha ? Mr LbarJ does not have the funds to do before and after dyno tests and a pictorial - well unless one of those mustang magazines wants to do an acticle LOL . I'll take some pictures as I "attempt " the instal as is I'll be doing this in a parking lot - I have no garage - I have minimal mechanical aptitude , I think I have some tools somewhere -

We'll see how it goes , I hope my enthusiasm makes up for my lack of skill

The key to doing something the first time is to read the directions fully a couple times. Then as you do it read through each step and if something doesnt seem right or doesnt want to "fit" etc then dont force it and take your time. If you get frustrated take a break. It shouldnt be that bad overall to do it.

Yeah Thanks SpectorV I plan on doing just that - I actually think it will be fun . It'll be nice not spending the $$ to have someone else do the work

Okay-so maybe that was a stretch (dyno etc.) still, after having driven your car for? how long? There will some kind of difference(s)-just report that back to the forum , keeping the rest of us abreast of your finding/progress..

Re: 2011 gt first mods

Ok the install is done - I ordered the parts monday - they came wednesday American Muscle ships very fast - Only one problem the tune I got had Cold air / Airbox as stock so I had to call and get em to send a new tune to my email and that was a process to get the new tunes into the SCT . anyhow install was not hard and reflashing car a snap . I took her out for a bit of a test and the traffic here is a mess I just have so little room to open her up . But first impressions are a ) the acceleration is much more linear it doesnt feel like it kicks in at a certain rpm , it just pulls and pulls and keeps going . throttle is much more responsive spun the tires like crazy in first. I'll need more time to evaluate the power as I couldn't push it to redline before I hit slower traffic Feels more powerful on first impression , how much hard to say without numbers.

Re: 2011 gt first mods

If it helps we had a member bring his 2011 to dyno day and it pulled 363WHP all stock. That cai and tune should get you 390!

Also what tune did you use and what gears do you have?

That's just peak though, the butt dyno suggests that some low end torque might have a significantly higher power gain early in the curve, does that sound right?

I hope so because the lack of low end torque is killing me.But then again coming from a car with 4.10s and a race tune is alot different than a stock tune and 3.73s.

Re: 2011 gt first mods

and is your car a manny or an auto?
bc i know that the biggest difference most ppl feel with tunes is the shift points in autos
not that the manny tune is a slouch

I would be willing to bet that it still has more low end torque than the 07, but since it takes off like a rocket at 3k it makes the low end torque SEEM lacking by comparison.

I wonder if ford is doing some fuel management stuff in the low rpms? because the mileage is insane for a motor this big and powerful. I like having both capabilities in one car to be honest.

Re: 2011 gt first mods

It does have more torque than the 07.....70 more to be exact. Its the gears and tune that made the 07 so peppy from the get go.4.10s are a big difference from 3.73s.

Yeah I had a math class or two back in the day I meant the actual pull off the line with your gears in the 07 might not be quicker than the pull off the line (in the low end torque area) of the 5.0, but only your butt dyno can tell you that haha

You thinking of doing 4.10s on the 5.0? That would be gnarly...

That sounds like a wise choice, have you had a chance to run the 1/4 mile in yours yet? I'm having a hell of a time launching... never had 412 ponies on tap before :/

I think the first mod for my `11 is going to be the one piece aluminum driveshaft, and maybe a K&N panel filter..

Mine was when the salesman stole the antenna of the Roush because I reminded him that I was about to leave without one on mine, lol!

Just ordered my Roush axelbacks on tuesday. The next one will be a C&L cai and $150 to wipe my SCTX3 out and load it with a Bama 93 race tune. That should be next week.

I sure will. You should come out to the next dyno day at Maxwell Dodge, we are just waiting on a call back from them now so we can set a date and get it posted.

Ive been trying to PM you on here to let you know about the dyno day but for some reason it wont let me.Anyways, come check out the local Austin forum CENTRALTEXASSTANGS.COM for local meets and such.We even have shop days for members that need help with installing mods or general maintenance.

LOL, we also run a shop cam during the shop day so members that cant be there can see and hear everything. You also comment in on the work as it is being done via the Shout Box.

Dan,
I was a member on that website-at one time, in the past. The problem with my participation in Dyno Days-and other scheduled events/happenings..they usually happen on Saturdays-and unlike most normal folks-I work Saturday(s).. Thanks for trying to let me know, as well!

Re: 2011 gt first mods

the color is Yellow Blaze Tri Coat Metalic . Looks more orange yellow , than in those pics . Its a manual / with 373's - C&L intake with Bama tune from american Muscle - I'll tell ya with tune and intake this thing is starting to become a beast - It'll chirp every gear and the 1-2 shift can be just madness the front lifts up and the back end hunkers down - then the tires break loose - time for some drag radials !!!
from what I've seen most manuals are making 380's ++ with CAI and a tune .

Next up - Exaust ----->>>

Considering our cars actually made 360+ on stock dynos it would accurately be assumed we made about 415-425hp considering drivetrain loss.

I would really like to know if the 360hp pull on the 2011 was in 3rd or 4th gear. Tons of people are making higher than average claims but are pulling in the wrong gear. Be sure the dyno is performed on a 1:1 or as close as you can get 1:1. Some 03 Cobras were making 370-380 depending on conditions. I wouldn't be suprised to see the 2011 making 360 or so but those are going to be in the best conditions.

Re: 2011 gt first mods

The best ive seen so far is 375 and that was the best of three. That same car made 393 with JLT intake and 91 octane BBR tune.We had a member at our last dyno day pull 363 all stock. With those mods and a OR X guys are pulling a little over 400whp....and a full exhaust and they are seeing as high as 425whp.
