New 2011 GT. Looking for shifter options

Hey, I'm new to this site. I just picked up a 2011 Kona Blue GT with Brembo, 3.55, and a 6-speed. This is my 2nd mustang. My first was an '01 GT vert with a five speed. I put a Steeda shifter in that car and it made a huge difference. Has anyone put a new shifter in the new 5.0? If so, what do you suggest? Is Steeda still king? I really miss the bullet proof feeling of an aftermarket shifter. The stock shifter on the '11 is better than previous Mustangs, but to me it still feels like a pipe cleaner.

While Steeda is nice MGW is where its at. You can purchase them from mgwltd.com I had a steeda... and MGW is far superior on my 03 mustang. My friend loves his in his 08 gt as well.

I like how you can angle the handle (far superior reach in my car) and the quality of the product and level of noise it puts out are far better (less noise))

What about , Pro 5.0 , I had one on my 2000 it was a very solid shifter - I'd love to have that on my 11 ' GT fits with the badging too .

Re: New 2011 GT. Looking for shifter options

well while the Steeda and the Pro 5.0 are both good MGW I feel is simply the best on the market.

The one thing you have to remember is the 05+ models the transmission and shifter are together via a linkage, on the older years it sat right on the shifter. This is why the 05+ dont feel as solid with an after market shifter as the older years did. It has more "play" in them vs mine for example. Not a huge deal just something I dont care for.

MGW does not currently have a shifter for the new 2011 Mustang GT's, nor does Pro 5.0. Steeda seems to be the only one that current has one for the new transmission found in the 2011 GT's but I'm sure if you wait a little bit over the winter one will become available through another company.

"You can purchase them from mgwltd.com "..

I just got off the telephone with MGW. They have an `11 GT-in their shop, right now-working on a prototype. (Do not be mislead by their "2010-present" wording-for the current short throw setup. It is for the 5 speed, only("up to 2010"..).
They do not have a 2011 6 speed replacement shifter...YET.. Sometime around the begining of the new year...

Re: New 2011 GT. Looking for shifter options

I've been keeping tabs on the progress of the MGW. I've been impressed with the amount of testing they are doing on this. They are logging a lot of miles in a prototype. Some interesting comments is that the new '11 trans is more sensitive to a short throw shifter than previous s197, so they are revising now much 'shorter' it can go without causing syncro and lock-out issues.

Thanks for all the great feedback. I think I'll wait for some reviews to start coming in before I make my choice. It would be nice to know how much noise will be transferred and how much of a difference a new shifter will make when the stock is already a shorty.

I think you might be able to get rid of the skip shift with a tuner. Someone correct me if I'm mistaken. I have never encountered the skip shift. Keep in mind I have only had the car a week.

Re: New 2011 GT. Looking for shifter options

yea skip shift is a tune item and can be removed with a tune (I am pretty sure as the Boss 302 Laguna has a race key that removes this option as well as other things)

Re: New 2011 GT. Looking for shifter options

It's "removeable", via a new "tune"..

Re: New 2011 GT. Looking for shifter options

True about the tune but there has to be a wire you can unplug on the transmission to take the solenoid (or whatever they use to block the shift) out of the loop so to speak. just wonder if it is tied into anything in the computer that would send a flag and give you a MIL or some kind of dash light ?
I never have liked the car telling what gear to be in let alone on a "MANUAL"
but that's just me
your mileage may vary ...
