Ram air fibre glass hood

I've got the 2011 5.0 race red. I was recently backed into by an uninsured motorist so it's in the shop getting repaired as you read. But I'm thinking of going with a ram air hood by rksport! I thought they only made GM aftermarket parts. But apparently the make hoods for the new 5.0 as well. So what do you guys think the hood is only $700 compared to the stock hood which is running $1200 unpainted. The big plus for me is that my deductible is $500 so this hood will cover the difference. Am I making a mistake buy swapping my stock aluminum hood for a fibre glass ram air hood?

To be honest I dont know enough about the hood to make a educated comment. However they do make a body kit for the s197's that was good quality and looked good. I have seen the new body kit for the 5.0 which includes the hood in question.

Given their reputation that I know of, and the price, I would say deff go for it, take pics and let us know if the fit.

By the way from experience in after market parts my body guys have told me that cervinis parts are always a perfect fit. Which makes then easy to install.
I would check out cervinis as well.

Good luck bud!

Re: Ram air fibre glass hood

Fiberglass is weird to work with. Its not a paint put on and it matches. 99% of cars with a fiberglass hood need to get the fenders blended so the front of the car matches.

Honestly I wouldn't buy another fiberglass hood unless it was going on a dedicated race car and since your car is so new, I as a body guy would hate to have to paint and blend the whole front end just for the hood to match.

When I go to work tomorrow I will make a paint sample of Race Red and see what is all in it. Some colors are hard to match then add fiberglass and it gets tricky.

But its your car. So its all up to you. But I wouldn't do it. Just my .02 cents

They are going to repaint the whole front of the car. They are replacing the bumper, passenger side fender and both headlights. I'm guessing they would have to do some blending anyways. I hope it turns out good I don't even have 2,500 miles on it yet and it's undergoing major bodywork. This hole experience has left me feeling a little bummed out. But Thanx for your advice.

the quality of an aftermarket hood need to be really checked out. A friend of mine just had their aftermarket 00 cobra R hood split (top and bottom came apart) and flew off the car~ so... hood pins might be needed to stay safe.

Re: Ram air fibre glass hood

I takeback my comment from an earlier thread where I said Cervini was overpriced...I was really only going off of the price of one of their hoods on american muscle...their products are priced well on their website especially for the quality of the product

Hood pins are just about a must the stock latch only grips tha middle so this allows a lot of play on the outsides.and a little play on fiberglass =cracking and breaking at high speeds. Areotech is the nicest I have seen and they lock as well.
