Newbie needs Help: Buy out 2010 or wait

Ok, I need feedback from some folks. Long story short, I am a new Mustang owner (first time, December 2009). Had never owned a car like a Mustang so I was not sure what to expct. I leased (I know, I know) my 2010 GT thinking that if I got tired of it (got it out my system after 3 years) I could just give it up. Well, I have fallen in love with the car and not sure how to proceed from here. I can't see myself getting rid of it. The one drawback is I am so intrigued by the new 5.0 and it's power. I feel like I want to upgrade to the bigger engine.

Does it make sense to ride out my lease and then jump over to the 5.0 in 2012-13? Or does it make sense to just buy out my current 2010 and invest in some modifications? I know there are a lot of fincial considerations here.

It is tough right now because there are mods I want to make to my 2010 but since it is a leased vehicle it makes no sense (unless I plan to buy it out).

Any thoughts on this issue would be appreciated.

What are your goals for the car? Powerwise that is.

Re: Newbie needs Help: Buy out 2010 or wait

No major goals power wise. I don't see myself taking this to a track or anything of that nature. This is a daily driver for me. Right now I am interested in the basics (CAI, Tune, exhaust). Maybe supercharge down the road, but I know we are talking more dollars there.

A lot of the issue is just knowing there is a car out there that has something mine does not (4.6 vs 5.0). But I guess that is always going to be case with anything you buy. Maybe it just comes down to "love what you own"?

I see you have a 2011, is it night and day comparing the 5.0 and 4.6?

Take it into the dealership and tell them your situation and you want to BUY a new mustang.... they might surprise you on getting you out of that one.

I say-trade in the leased 2010 4.6. Go to the dealer-after you have already called Ford to get your ten day payoff-and work up some numbers on the trade-in scenario. The three valve 4.6 is a nice car. You will be 'kicking' yourself for a long time-either during that lease period, and/or during a buyout/modding phase. Yes-to your analogy, sherv33-call it 'night and day'(the difference(s) between the performance of the `10 4.6, and the `11 5.0... )

Everyone above has good ideas. I would not buy it after the lease, unless they give you a good deal on it. Talk to the dealer and see what they can do.

Its a tuff decision to make... the 2011 is far superior in performance and will hold its value MUCH better... the 2010s are being hard to sell by dealers now.

If you can hold off and just tinker with a few little things it might do you well to wait a year or two and get a new 5.0. The hype is everywhere right now, in a bit they will be just like all the other GT mustangs... everywhere. That will mean you get a better deal and such.

If I was in your position ... I am not sure what I would do

Re: Newbie needs Help: Buy out 2010 or wait

The 4.6 & the 5.0 are a night and day difference, not doubt about that. But IMO the 2010 is gonna be "that"'car like the 99 cobra. Sure there are gonna be alot of 2011s running around in a couple of years but that's gonna make a 2010 even harder to sell because of the 4.6 that's in there. If you can trade it in on a 5.0 You will be much more satisfied with doing the basic mods and hitting or almost hitting 400+ whp vs doing the same mods a barely breaking 300whp.

Re: Newbie needs Help: Buy out 2010 or wait

Another good reason (something that I think is not talked about nearly enough) is the ridiculously good mileage that the 5.0 gets (when you actually cruise it)

The Camaro/SRT killing numbers and 302 "name" are all just bonuses lol, but since this is a daily driver (I'm assuming since you leased one) as mine is, the mileage actually does come into play.

Re: Newbie needs Help: Buy out 2010 or wait

Well, spoke with a local dealer and they are only willing to give me $21K for my car (KBB lists it at $25K). I thought that sounded a little crazy, but I guess there are some things driving that- dealer needs to to make a profit and that 2010's are not selling as well right now.

Might try one or two more dealerships and might even try leasetrader or swaplease.

Re: Newbie needs Help: Buy out 2010 or wait

if I was you I would put my car in all the local ads and sell it and make more money. Dealers will always give you bottom dollar and sell it for more as they have to make a profit and have high overhead.

Dont trade it in unless you have no choice.
