Re: tune needed?

A tune is not needed for the axle back. There are some CAI that dont need a tune and some that you must have. Make sure if you do get a tuner, get a good quality custon tune. Even a standard car with no mods can benifit from a tune.

What year is you car? What engine/ trans do you have?

Re: tune needed?

, I am still researching the benefits from a tune on the 5.0L. It looks like a CAI, axle back exhaust and a tune will net you about 35-40HP. Of course it depends on which CAI and tune you get. The factory stuff is just so good that the aftermarket can only improve so much. There is a factory CAI installed... looks like Ford is finally looking at the aftermarket.

Re: tune needed?

Yeah thats one of them I saw, they seem to be getting good results. I saw some dyno pulls with them somewhere. I think the car had catback exhaust as well with those numbers but I dont remember. The full catback is supposed to be worth 10HP more than a axle back with the tune.

Again, I am just researching. This is all my opinion based on all the forums I am reading off.

Re: tune needed?

No matter if you get a cai or not pick up a sct handheld like the one from American Muscle with the Bama tunes. You will not be disappointed. The race tune takes away all that throttle lag and really brings the car to life. I would suggest getting a cai with the tuner but that's up to you. I would also go with a Bama tune or a BBR tune which what I'm about to switch to. Cai,OR X pipe and a BBR tune is getting some guys over 400HP at the wheels.

Re: tune needed?

Yeah You would not need a tune for axleback . Most intakes for 11 + stangs will require a tune as the additional airflow could create a lean condition . I would not believe a 44 hp gain from just CAI and tune from the dyno #'s ive seen average is around 15- 25 still a good gain plus the tunes improve the throtte response and seems to make the car pull like crazy all the way to redline . I know , I got a C&L Cai and Bama tune and car is definately becoming a beast to drive .

Re: tune needed?

as all have said a catback is fine but if you put a CAI on it get it tuned. Some 03/04 cobras pick up about 40+ rwhp/tq from exhaust/intake/tune

Re: tune needed?

FRPP is jumping onboard, for 5.0 aftermarket parts support-in a big way. Check the latest issue of: 5.0 & Super Fords (magazine's) FRPP cover test mule, and subsequent article. They are getting great results from their tuner and panel filter, alone!
