2011 Mustang GT questions- Brembo and 3.73

Just have some general questions about the 2011 GT:

1. With the Brembo Brake Package, are the Pirelli tires strictly summer tires? If so, I am not too familiar with the idea of summer tires...does that mean you should only drive them over certain temps/certain weather? Or is that just a "recommendation", meaning you could really drive the car year around? Does anyone actually have this package on their 2011 and is it worth it?

2. Do you feel 3.73 gears an essentail for the new 5.0? Will you notice the difference if you do/do not get the 3.73 gears?

Just looking for some info. Thanks.

The Pirelli tires are summer use only, they are dicey in the cold, not saying you can't do it but they are not your "all season".

The 3.73 gears are awesome on the 2011 GT and have quite a noticeable difference from the stock gears. 3.73 gears paired with the manual transmission make a phenomenal combination. You will definitely loose some top end speed but it all depends what you are looking for I guess.

I went with both the brake upgrade and 3.73 gears from factory and highly recommend them both.

1. Summer tires are meant for Summer only but can be driven in the winter (at least in South Texas where no snow falls EVER). I have a pair of summer tires on my V6 and they do tend to slide just a bit in cold rain if I brake to fast. The summer tires have better grip in hot weather because the compund is stickier and sticks better to the heated pavement. I use them cause we have 100 degree summers here so this works out better on my car. It is only a "recommendation" that you only use them in summer. Even though I haven't driven one with the Brembo package, a lot of car magazine editors say its worth it.

2. I have heard that the stock gears dont pull fast enough in 1st and 2nd gear but the gears help a great bit. You will lose about 1-2 mpg's with the 3.73 also.

Re: 2011 Mustang GT questions- Brembo and 3.73

summer tires as said are sticker tires that are suited for performance driving and wear out MUCH faster than a harder compound tire. They do not fair as well in the snow/ice but may be decent (I dont drive in snow/ice so I have no frame of reference)

Some tires have temps they should be stored and used at~ such as drag radials can dry and crack if they get to cold etc etc, your OEM tires should be fine though.

3.73s are the way to go, why not have the car faster/more fun to drive vs the other gears lol

Re: 2011 Mustang GT questions- Brembo and 3.73

I do have the 3:73s. I do not have the Brembos. I wish I had the brake upgrade -take advantage of the factory cost(s)/upgrade. Better brakes are always a plus . I've had 4:10s, and 3:55s. I like the 3:73 gearing as the 'all around, happy medium'. There may be a slight loss of m.p.g, in the city.? You won't see this on the highway. My car gets really good fuel economy-for 412 HP!

Re: 2011 Mustang GT questions- Brembo and 3.73

My caps lock button is stuck so i apologize in advance, lol.

If you can afford some sticky tires,kdws,f1s ect....and dont do any snow driving then go for it because you will need them.i had general uhp tires on my 07 with 300whp and had a hard time hooking them up.imo its worth it.

As far as gears go the 3.73s are great, better than the 3.55s but for me i love the 4.10s.if i stay na which with bolt ons it looks like 450+whp can easily be reached on these 5.0 then 4.10s are gonig in.410s are so much fun on a street driven car, they just give you a extra little snap in the neck when paired up with a tune and full exhaust.

...and I concur, Dan-they are a blast. I actually had 4:10 gears on my `03 MaCh 1-but changed them out for 3:55s.

I was told the Pirelli tires on all 2011 mustangs are all season. They are the same tires on the new Lamborghini's. 3.73 gears are nice, just remember the higher you go the worse the gas milage. As far as the brembo brakes unless you are going to the track they will only be for looks. The brakes ford puts on are really good, in a test on the 2011's from 80 mph to 0 they stopped exactly the same. It wasn't until 125 mph test that brembo stopped slightly sooner.

Re: 2011 Mustang GT questions- Brembo and 3.73

The 3.73s are perfect, you can stay in peak HP and 6th still gets ridiculous mileage at 70mph

You won't lose top speed at all, 6th with the 3.73s is geared for about 196 or so if you remove the limiter.

As for cold weather... I'm in tahoe on the top of northstar, drove up here in the stang with the pirellis on

Dont fear the gear......amen brother. I agree 100% with that.As far as the brakes go I think they are great, alot better that the previous years and I personaly wouldn't waste money on a dealer option when I could do it cheaper myself.I say unless you are doin hot laps at the track the new stock brakes are just fine.
