Re: dealership trying to rip me off

Do you really need a lift? Jack that thing up and set it on some jackstands. You should be able to change it out like that. I've done countless transmissions this way, having to remove the exhaust is part of that job. If you don't have any jackstands, they definitely won't cost as much as the dealer is trying to F you for!

a rack is helpful. but you dont have to have a rack to install one. just a willingness to get dirty and be super uncomfortable for a couple hours..if it takes you that long.

It's either that or $300 less to spend on more mods!

Springs aren't that bad to install, at least on the 94-04 cars. I've never done it on a 05+. It should be about the same though.

Springs are pretty easy. I wouldn't imagine them being any harder to install than any other year mustang.

i saw a video on utube on how to install springs on 05 and up...pretty straight forward...only main thing i could see different was the rear sway bar links...but again, straight forward work.

The only thing that would worry me would be the front springs. On my Fox, I ended up having to drop the A arms in order to change the springs because I couldn't get a spring compressor on them. That was a total pain in the ***.

I've helped change springs several times on 94+ cars and never had the same problem though.

The dangerous way. One person stands on the A arm and the other wrestles the bastards out.

On the 94-04s though it's really not that dangerous because the front sprints are nowhere nearly as compressed.

Yup, had to do the same thing when I put the pro kit on my '85.

Re: dealership trying to rip me off

The suspension will also compress and bounce if the car falls off the jack. I won't get under a car without stands.
Out of the 15+ years of working on cars, I have only had a car fall off a jack one time, and that's because I trusted that my buddy set the ebrake on his car. I was doing his brakes, and he was parked on a slight incline, we opened the hood, and just the pressure of doing that rolled it right off the jack.
Not trying to bust balls or anything, just making a point for safety!

You can take a wire brush to it and then get some good rattle can spraypaint after it. That's what I have done to all my axles. Makes it look a helluva lot cleaner under there!

Re: dealership trying to rip me off

If you can change your own oil then you can install axelbacks.Super easy and takes bout a hour max.Spray some wd40 on the rubber hangers to make the job easier and use some jackstands.....$300 axelbacks aren't worth losing a limb or having your chest caved in.
