What would I be looking to spend for the Boss mani, steeda cai and the tune all together?

I'm going with the stainless works 1 7/8" primaries LT's and thier merge spike x pipe! Got it for a good deal at 1100$ for both
Also, here's AMs car which has the following mods
  • Boss 302 Intake Manifold
  • 4.10 Gears
  • Off-road X-pipe
  • cat-back
  • sticky tires

This is an AUTO and put down 404/355 and did 11.64 (before the juice).

BOSS mani good price at 390$
For the tune u need a sct tuner, for the steeda/ sct tuner package good price at 610$. I got the JLT/sct tuner package for 575$.
And depending on if u want the fancy install kit or the cost effective kit could range from 15$ to 180$.
So I would say the cheap est. Would be about 980$. If u pay retail the high est. Would be about 1350$ and this is doing the install yourself. If going to get it installed at speed shop add about 400 to 500$ depending on hourly labor rate and what they est. The labor time to be.

Re: Install of the Boss 302 intake manifold!

Looks nice, I need to break down and order one of those strut tower braces. I'd love to find an aftermarket one that's lighter and/or stronger but there don't seem to be many options.

What weight oil are you running with the boss intake upgrade? The manual has us using 5w20 while the boss 302 runs 5w50.

Re: Install of the Boss 302 intake manifold!

The intake manifold will have no change in what oil you run. The boss 302 is a different engine all together. Just keep running the 5w20.

I was only thinking of the rpm increase with the new intake.

Re: Install of the Boss 302 intake manifold!

Doesnt matter, most people wont ever see 7000 RPM unless they are at the track. The internals of your engine are still the same. Run the 5w20 and you wont have anything to worry about.

Im running 5w30, but the Boss mani had no influence on that decision.

Idk how ppl are running 11s with this intake I have a 2011 Gt 6MT DR 4.10s steeda intake and bama tune and the best time I ever got was a 12.135 at 114 mph and I'm being told that I won't do any better than that with the boss' loss of low end power... I just took the boss off and replaced with stock and will try for 11s Thursday at the track if I don't get a better time then I have no idea what is going on will put boss back on and data log and resend it to bama... Any ideas???

In all honestly I'm starting to believe Bama mail in tunes are complete crap but I know some ppl out there that have had great success with them

Your gears are probably your issue ... should be running 3.73s or 3.90s with the MT82. 4.10s will make you hit the rev limiter or shift to 5th right before the trap from what I have heard.

Lol my buddy has 3.73s all same mods as me and was only able to do a 12.6 with a John lund tune and bama actually told me that 4.30s was the gear to compensate for the loss of low end torque... Doesn't seem possible to be in the 11s

This is pretty much what I was getting at, I would be going with exactly what Napoleon said, 114 doesn't seem very high considering many people hit 110-112 with street tires

Re: Install of the Boss 302 intake manifold!

I know a few people running in the 11's with a Boss intake. I know you have 4.10 gears, are you running a 26" tall tire, or a 28? What are your 60' times?

28 inch tire and 60ft is a constant 1.6s

Re: Install of the Boss 302 intake manifold!

You should run 11's with ease then. Even with the 28" tall tire. 4th gear is a 1.32 and 5th is 1.00 so you dont have much drop in RPM, but you also want to try and stay out of 5th. With a bone stock car (3.73's) and a 26" tire, i have been 12.3x's at 115-116.

Are you launching at high rpm or just easing into it... I'm launching at 6500 to Hit that boss powerband as soon as possible and I'm pretty much constant 12.3s and got 12.13 once... I'm thinking it's tune? But I want to know if it's worth the 600 for a dyno or if I'll run much better with stock intake

Re: Install of the Boss 302 intake manifold!

I launch at 7000 99% of the time. I leave as hard as i can to try and cut a good 60'. Usually i'm in the 1.5-1.6 range. I have yet to slap on the Boss intake, this article was based off of Scott's car. I like my low end power.

Re: Install of the Boss 302 intake manifold!

No, it could be a couple of different things. Could be gears, tire size, DA, track prep, tune, and so on. Like i said, there are people running 11's with a Boss intake. I have a buddy that has one and ran a 11.93 @ 118, 3.73's with a 26" tire. So many factors come into play on any given pass at the track.

Last run if the night before the track shut down and I trapped in 4th and redlined at the end of the run so that run should be well in the 11s... This is with stock intake FYI so maybe this boss intake isn't as good as they say it is?

Re: Install of the Boss 302 intake manifold!

Boss intake likes to be spun to the moon. It makes its power in the higher RPM range. You are very close to that 11. Shouldnt have any problems hitting it the next time you go to the track.
