Why does the V6 intake look so lame?

Ok I've been wanting to asks this question for almost a year now, "Why does the V6 intake look so lame?". I know they want the long runners for better flow rates at high RPM's at the intake valves, but this intake system looks so Detroitish. Compare to the intake they are using on the V8 (looks like designs from Europe.); it looks like they haven't advanced any from the early '80. Can it be that cross flow runners off of dual plenums won't work? I don't see how other design engineers can make it work, but Ford engineers are still building what looks like it came off of their early '80 diesels! It seems the Italians and the Japanese can make them look good and function. Just don't see why Ford can make it to where V6 owners would be proud to open their hoods.
Just my opinion, I did order the V6 and with luck I'm hoping for delivery in March. I guess I just won’t be showing off the engine bay. I'll have to leave that to the V8 owners. I just wish the Ford design team had a clue.

yea it needs a cover, if you look at the 4.6L 3v in the 05+ or even the 5.0L without the engine cover they also look the same.

Buy an engine cover and it will make it look better.

It has an engine cover, it's called the hood. I was thinking of a dress-up kit, but wouldn't that be like putting lip stick on a pig? Well I'll just have to be satisfied with the HP and mileage it gets.
Is that just an engine cover on the 2011/12 5.0 V8? Thought that was the intake you see. I'll have to look closer.

Long runners are actually for better velocity at low RPMs. Short runners are better for high-flow at high RPMs.

It has some sort of cover over it~ you can google or look on ebay for them, they all have them though so its not like an option you can delete. The 05+ look MUCH better with the little cover over the intake that they offer.

Re: Why does the V6 intake look so lame?

I actually like the bare engines without the big covers on them...it actually looks like an engine, not a big plastic case under the hood. All the wires and the actual intake showing looks nostalgic to me...too many cars with engine bays all covered up.

Look at the Cadiilac CTS (the 3.6L DI, not the V)...it works for that car because it's a luxury car, keep the clean, sleek look, but I wouldn't want that appearance on a mustang.

I do like the 05-09 GT intake cover though, because the stock intake looks like an LS6 intake

Ya I got that one back wards. It does pos a question as to why they have such long runners on a high RPM engine.
Looking at the cut away of the engine I see that they are using a 60 deg lay out and have the head intake port angled up 30 degrees to have them point straight up. This kind of points out why the intake has to lay over, to the side on top of the valve cover. I'll have to look closer I mine when it arrives to see if they had to stick with the 60 deg lay out because of the 4 valve heads. Ford does always seem to be stuck on a 60 deg lay out for their V6's.
Just wish they could have made it look better so that we could be proud to open the hood.

Re: Why does the V6 intake look so lame?

I agree completely, Ive been looking all over for an intake manifold cover or something to brighten things up. The only company that I found that offered them for the V6 is now out of business......Looks like I'm going to have to use a supercharger......It's the only option

How 'bout this:

2011 Mustang V6 3.7L Complete Factory Engine Intake Cover Kit - 2010-2011 - Engine Dress-up - Engine Compartment - Home for your Ford Mustang

Bought it for my V6. Easy to install and IMHO easy on the eyes.

Re: Why does the V6 intake look so lame?

Since this an actual Ford part, I suspect it is the engine cover that comes with the V-6 Performance Package option. I have never seen one in person but this has to be it - nice that you can add it if needed. I agree that it dresses up the engine bay a bit.

Re: Why does the V6 intake look so lame?

Anyone able to locate one for the 4.0 V6? I've dug around forever and have had zero luck
