Who puts regular gas in new 5.0?

I'm just curious, who buys a beast and than puts 87 scooter fuel in it?

I would be curious as well. I may be trying it with my next tankfull-and I will 'report back here'. I do not have a 'tune' on my car-and would like to see firsthand-if the Factory is fulla you-know-what , or, not..

the new ones run better on premium vs regular so I would run that~ but either works its just a few hp

Ehhhh I'm guilty of this, started doing it when gas hit 4.25 a gallon... Gonna switch back though, it doesn't quite feel the same.

I ran a few tanks of 87 in my '11 GT over the winter. Well, winter in Memphis isn't really winter. The car ran the same as if I had 93 in there. No knocks. Didn't notice any fuel mileage drop either, but I get bad mileage regardless due to the fact my foot is made of lead (up to the speed limit of course).

Octane recommendations (5.0L V8 engine)

Your vehicle will run normally on 87 octane regular fuel without
damaging the engine, but premium fuel with an octane rating of 91
(R+M)/2 or higher is recommended for best overall performance.

Okay-I 'admit' it . I went to get gas today-and filled up with premium. It cost me 55.75!!
Someday ? I will try the regular unleaded?

Re: Who puts regular gas in new 5.0?

I've run everything from 87-110. The PCM compensates for lower octane.

Re: Who puts regular gas in new 5.0?

yea, everyone has this odd assumption that 87 is crappy gas.. its just an octane rating and timing is modified for lower octane gas~ less hp but just as safe.

So the 412 HP rating on the 5.0 was using premium? I asked the Ford dealers and they haven't a clue.

Punks. Been running 87 but like saving $0.30 a gallon around here in KC. I'm not worrying about the 10 less HP but wonder the difference in gas mileage. I will start keeping track of my mileage and the diffs in gas and see if running premium and the 10 more HP compensate into more MPGs. But figure when I get it tuned I'll have to run 91. Can't get 93 around here.

Wonder if there are worthwhile octane boosters out there worth the $$? I'll start a new thread to separate the discussions.

Re: Who puts regular gas in new 5.0?

Yup I use 87, I have no tunes and will run this until this is not my daily driver. When I tune, and all the fun stuff, I'll go premium. With tuners, from what I've asked and read it seems you can tune for 87 or premium (any fuel type).

Again, If I could could afford $400 a month on gas then I'd go premium, but I don't have engine knocks or any issues. I was trying higher octane but then the gas price went up 50 cents in 3 months. Just can't justify it.

+1 to that, I have a friend running a blown civic si, his car could only get 300hp at the wheels with 93 and 12 psi, and now he makes 312 with 9 psi and advanced timing and the e85, and plans of getting to 345rwhp by the end of the summer with 12 psi. It's a good conversion.

I usually try to run 91-93 but have dropped down to 89 without any problems.

I'm not sure what my car is tuned for I'm trying to find out from the place I bought but so far no luck and I don't want to harm the motor by running the wrong gas.

Listen...if 93 octane is an average of $.30 a gallon more than 87. It blows my mind why you guys won't spend the extra $4.50 for 93. You bought a $35-40 thousand dollar car and you won't splurge a few dollars...LMAO!!!!

Re: Who puts regular gas in new 5.0?

I am bying 91 octane I am not cheap but if iy will run safetly on 87 octane I might buy it every other tank full or so,the thing is I mostly drive my stang to work and back so I don't really drive that much so I'm fine buying premium gas.

Re: Who puts regular gas in new 5.0?

I have a gas station in town that has several grades of premium starts at 91,93,95 and I want to 97 you go just down the road the premium is 89 or 95. So I go to the one with options and go for 91 and if I have more money I move up a grade,
